Story reaction (Master's Island)

I received this email this morning.....Why in the hell would you waste anyone's time on this site, especially using the
codes you used to imply this being hardcore. It was a long-winded, wimpy
Harlequinn Romance diatribe and I intend both to review it and tell everyone I
know that reads hardcore erotica what a waste of time you are. It was pathetic,
poorly developed and NEVER heated me, never turned me on. Talk about bait and
switch. At the beginning, you talked in the introduction to the story about
man's baser intincts growing and how sex would soon not be enough and impllied
all sorts of things. YOU STINK. Go write romance novels somewhere but stop
posting on this site ... I am so pissed of at wasting sooo much of a night where
I could be reading stuff written by REAL men that I'm tempted to report you to
the webmaster for misrepresenting your work and having it reviewed for awhile so
it is being represented adequately. Again...YOU SUCK. And I've never flamed
an author before EVER. You really do STIN!
K with all your delusions of gradeur about how you were being alpha. You don't
even know how to spell or understand the word you pathetic misfit. I'll bet you
never get laid. And I'm a woman writing you. Imagine the disappointment of men
wanting to jack-off to something really hardcore, using women as victims. You
make yourself look STUPID and you probably think all your prose makes you a good
writer. As a journalist, I can tell you that good writers are a dime a dozen.
Good, alpha male, hardcore erotica male writers are too ... you stick out like a
sour thumb. God you've ruined my night and don't write me with any excuse and
if you DARE get upset and try to tell the powers that be, understand that my
name is Celeste, of ASSTR.org fame and I know good erotica when I read it. You
win the award for the first male writer to win a clitoris, not a clitoris award!

DON'T write me back with excuses. The mere sight of your name on this site
makes my stomach churn and belive me, with all the people I know from various
sites, all the authors and webmasters ... you're readership is toast.

I needed a couple hours to think about this and gauge my reaction. I am not sure of the reason for the degree of vehemence directed at me personally for writing the story. I have concluded it resulted from my use of “hardcore” in the story description. I used the editor’s definition, which is “Plain adult sex story with no or little bdsm content “. I thought this was closer than “extreme” for this work.

As to her remark regarding my sex life, I do all right for an old guy (thank god for Viagra)

I have no pretensions of being a “great” writer. When I finished MI, I was pleased with myself that I had completed a work and had enjoyed the writing process. The small feedback I did receive was uniformly positive. It was good to think that out there in that great cyber void someone had found it, read it and enjoyed it.

Anyway to be an English teacher, like she has claimed to be in her reviews in asst. org., I would think she would be aware of spellchecker.

Could this be the return of, OHHHHHNOOOOOOOOO Brenda????????????:D :D :D

Taoman, that story is MAD. I have no idea what that stupid woman was talking about.
As an author, I would have been crushed by such an e-mail, even though I knew it was totally crap. DON'T BE. It was an hour and a half well spent reading that (my eyes hurt now), and if I wasn't so damn tired at the moment, I'd read the other one you submitted :(
I agree with your own ratings for the story, no problem there. I reviewed it for you, hope you like it. I noticed "Celeste" has failed to review the story.
Never heated her? What the hell is her problem? I had a hard time restraining myself!

Now I need to get editing Chapter 3 & 4 of my own story :)

BTW, did you get to read the story?

...and i really liked it, it perhaps wasn't as hardcore in parts as i would generally go for but i thought it was well written. i certainly didn't think it in anyway warranted that sort of nonsensical abuse.

I'd be fascinated by a sequal to this story, but I couldn't pull it off myself. I'd be too scared of trying to beat the first one, and failing. :(

You're right, sorry Taoman - also, don't pay any attention to that e-mail you received, the story was really good. i don't know who she thinks she is, i mean, it's fine to not personally like a story but that reaction is completely out of order (and a little crazy).

Lord Douche - i would also be interested to read a sequel. Have you written stories, i would like to read them (going to search the story archives now to see).

Indeed I have.
One I wrote... I think 4 chapters of before I realised I had no real idea of where to go from there.
I'm also currently writing Julie (It's on the main page atm). You interested in helping with proof-reading? RedEva is helping me, and she suggested I find someone else.
I have 2 more chapters written and I'm working on it as I metaphorically speak.

You two chat on and on within my thread.:D No problem there. I too will read LDs story. Thanks for you kind comments. I was prepared to throw in the towel after yesterday's message. Now I am going to subject everyone to more of my work. This might place you two on some flame lists.

Followup to the mail that sparked this thread. I politely responded yesterday that there should be room for all forms of erotica in this medium. That there should be a format that meet the expectations of a particular reviewing medium rubs me the wrong way.

She did reply politely and apologized. She still maintains my story was falsely advertised by the codes I used and I wasted her time when she read it.

She included some personal information so I wont post the message.

Reading in between the lines I wonder if MI offended her because of the strong male presence in the work and that the females all eventually are forced to bow to him. It was a while back and I had to think of my mindset when I wrote it, but at the time I purposely attempted to go over the top with a political incorrect slap at women's lib.

Only 2 reviews so far on my story :(
New Life had 5 within a few days :D I was pleasantly suprised.
Edit: 9 reviews within 10 days of posting, as I check my e-mail.

I liked the "Strong male presence", and can see how it would annoy Women's Lib groups. But then, wouldn't most stories on this site?
I think your codes were fairly accurate. It makes me wonder though, wouldn't she have worked it out that she didn't like the story early on and NOT wasted her time? I can't have been that bad if she read the entire thing.

Quite so. So far, I haven't really read any stories that are quite like Julie, anywhere on the internet. It's not for everyone though, since it has some mild SciFi elements (not so much in the first two chapters)
