    Unhappy alternative collars

i said recently that Sir had brought my collar.it is beautiful and i love it,it also looks really good on .... after talking to Sir about it i have for the moment had to stop wearing it,as my neck has come up in a horrid red rash...Sir said in hindsight He should have purchased a fully lined collar....for the metal on the inside of the collar being neither silver or gold is an irritant to my skin...am going to attempt to line it myself with a length of black velvet ribbon..but may have to look at purchasing another form of collar instead...as usual suggestions are appreciated

Dang, girl! Your auto-immune system is just working overtime, isn't it?

There are collars that are metal on the outside (chrome-plated steel, I think) and leather on the inside. Some have padded leather interiors, like expensive cars. The ones I've seen pictures of all have four rather prominent rings spaced around the exterior, but that doesn't mean other styles don't exist.

Sounds a bit like a nickel allergy or something; you're not having much luck on the D/s accessories - allergies front lately, are you hun!

Anyway, you could maybe consider a leather lined or indeed a leather collar?

the collar i have is actually leather..just the studs on it and the hole reinforcers lay against my skin.....shouldnt actually be too hard looking at it to catch stitch some fairly thick velvet ribbon to the back of it to cover the metal..using the stitching on the collar itself to catch the ribbon in place....is a good job i am fairly nimble with my fingers....smiles( in a craft way that is ...as i love cross stitch and beading...and want to even design my own beaded collar for dress occasions at some point in the future)

Again thank you all for your time and suggestions

Eeeewwww! Duct tape tends to get very sticky, even on the non-tacky side of the tape. I used to "repair" one of my motorcycle's seat with duct tape every now and then. It almost never worked. The tape made a mess of the seat and my pants after a while.

The ribbon is a great idea if you can manage the stitching. Beyond that, there's no shame in retiring a collar because it doesn't perform up to par for one reason or another. I retired one of my submissive's collars just because she called it stupid, for example. Finding a replacement collar can take a little time but is fun.

I recommend checking the local shops (if there are any in your area) first. Also contact any local leather crafters in your area. They may well make kinky items on the side. I like to see and touch an item before I buy it if at all possible. You could be sure a collar doesn't have nickel studs that would touch your skin, doesn't pinch in the wrong places, allows for a proper fit, etc.

If that's not an option, then ordering from catalogues or the net is usually good too. One of my fave kinky online shops is sub-shop. A wide variety of toys are offered with decent descriptions and photos. Autumn, who helps run the place, is sweet, helpful, and quite smart. She's quite good at word play and I think you'll find that she is willing to help you find just the right item.

If you're looking for a more durable collar, I highly recommend Dom Wolf's House of Collars. I currently wear one of their stainless steel collars. It's beautiful and very well made. They also offer aluminum collars and other wonderful devices.

There's also a thread on this forum titled How do you choose a collar for living in for a long period of time? that has other collar links.

Umm I know what I am about to suggest may be unorthodox but have you concidered something other than using a collar?

Something like a set of bracelets about 1" wide and inscribed with his name on them?
