    Birth Order?

There has been discussion about if a persons is Dom/sub by nature, etc. That got me to thinking. Does birth order by any chance play into the equation?

So, a poll. Oldest, middle or youngest or only child. If you are a middle child anywhere in the middle is fine, doesn't have to be a certain number, such as 2, 3, etc. (This is not THAT scientificate after all! lol) And are you Dom or sub? Sexs are also included just to see.

Due to the fact there can only be 20 options I combined the "Switch" category! Sorry! If you are a Switch and normally enjoy one role over the other I would encourage you to vote in that way.

And yes... I do realize that based on membership ratio/participation some of the numbers may be off a bit!

    Thanks for your participation!

Can't wait to see the results - even if participants are skewed and self selecting, it should prove interesting.

    No option for me.

i'm an orphan, raised in various foster and group homes. My place in the pecking order changed with each location.

That makes me wonder now, since I was adopted, I would be originally the first born in the family, but was adopted as the youngest.

    submissive either way though

    just_annie,

I am not sure what can be gained from this poll but I will to offer my info, I am the oldest child in a family that was very strange. A little love was spread but mostly uncaring parents that had children because it was expected. I grew to be a Dom because it is in me, part of that may well have been caused by the lack of interest and attention as a child. But the guts to take control of any group I wanted to belong to may have been feed by that need to validate my personal worth. It though may just have be me listening to that steelly inner voice that told me I had plans that were better then the ones currently being used.

I stood toe to toe with others that had years and size on my and rarely found that I failed to prove my point and quietly took control of the group, and that continued to this day. I don't choose to be a Dominant it is just who I am, and it can be very tiring since no matter the problem people come to me for solutions and a plan of action.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure what I hope to gain from it either... just something had me curious as to if birth order was a factor in the determination of a role.

I'll share more of my story after the poll has ran a while.

Thanks everyone for the input so far!

Middle child, had parents that thought I was a miracle, so they sorta spoiled me. Moreso than my older brother anyway. Parents never divorced. I have always done things my own way. Always challenged those in authority over me, but not ever been one to lead a group. I preferred one on one interactions, and still do.

I am now, always have been, and always be the "baby." As an only child, who came from a relatively well-to-do family I was spoilt rotten and loved every minute of it. Guess it turned me into a brat of sorts, but I love every minute of that too. *giggles. I was born to push buttons.

I was the only girl and baby most of my life.. I had 3 older brothers and I was spoiled rotten and doted upon by everyone..I was also the first grandchild on one side. ( my brothers have a different dad.) and so I was extra spoiled because of that. hehe.

Then when I was almost 12 SUPRISE my fixed dad broke some spermies loose and along came my sister... but she is basically an only child now as we are all older than her.

and I am still refered to as "the baby" by my brothers and much of my family.. XD

me and my sis love every minute of being the baby girls. WOOT
My hands are searching for you My arms are outstretched towards you
I feel you on my fingertips My tongue dances behind my lips for you
I can feel you all around me Thickening the air I'm breathing Holding on to what I'm feeling
    Savoring this heart that's healing
My hands float up above me And you whisper you love me And I begin to fade Into our secret place

Middle from a group of three, female sub. What's odd, if you could even call it "odd" I suppose, is that I have always been pegged as the oldest and as the "leader" of the group in most situations: work, social, etc. I'm fairly certain most folks that know me would be SHOCKED I'm a sub. Out of all the comments posted so far, I identify most closely with Sir Russell's description of how he acts and thinks, yet I have no desire whatsover to be the dominant in my current relationship.

I'm curious how many other subs fit a similar description?

I fit this description as well. I'm the oldest of three, and most people would be extremely surprised to find out I'm a sub. I've always found myself in leadership roles, and have always done well in them.

This recent article will add a lot of interesting information about birth order in general. Some of this may correlate to lifestyle tendancies.

Well, Annie, I guess it's just never come up before that I'm a twin.

Hey Alex... I didn't know you were a twin!

As many of you know I have twins, girl/boy almost 9 years old now. And, anyone would be hard pressed to find more exactly opposite children. The boy notices EVERYTHING, is very expressive and outgoing, great at certain subjects, dislikes sports, likes to stay up late/hates early mornings, etc. His sister on the other... is more quiet but takes things more personal, great on opposite subjects as her brother, loves all sports, can't stay up late but 5am is her time of the day, etc. It amazes me that they are twins as individual and different they are.

That being said, I almost included twins separately, because of their unique birth order. My daughter is older by 1 minute and initially she seemed the more dominate one and her brother more subbie, but as they get older I can see her becoming subbie to certain people and her brother... not actually sure about him any longer.

Anyhow... twins didn't get included separately since the poll only had 20 choices! Although I could certainly see that being an entirely different poll. Twins/Birth order, which one dominate/submissive after grown? lol

I've got a critique against this poll. It's probably a very different dynamic if you're the only child, (oldest) and oldest of several children.

I'm sure you are right... that's why this isn't for a scientific purpose but more for a Hmmmmmmmm... wonder what it may look like purpose. I'd want a LOT more money for this if it was of a scientific nature! lol

Hey, I am the oldest of my siblings and step siblings, 8 all together including me. I worked in leadership roles for many years at work but at home I definitely am a sub when it comes to my relationship with my husband. Of course I still do have opinions on many subjects, kids, money, etc. which drives my husband crazy at times. LOL I think he might do me in if we lived D/s 24/7. LOL

I am the oldest and a Domme, and ask dru, my mother and siblings need me to direct them, as they all have little commom sense.

I was rased for the bulk of my life by my grandmother (blessed be her soul) and everyone allways said I acted older then i was.

Oldest of 3 boys and a Dom.
I have always been a very outgoing person and could talk forever when I was younger but I have gotten quieter now that I am more sure of who I am and of myself. I no more feel the need to "prove myself" to everybody if you know what I mean, so I tend to keep quiet if I dont have anything to add to a conversation as opposed to before where I wold talk just to talk *chuckles*
This poll would work better if we were the same number Doms and subs but nevertheless it is gonna be a fun read

Youngest son with Dom desires, though little practiced. My mother still slips up and calls me by childish names at times.

My elder brother is not submissive but certainly very easy going. Sort of set his feet on fire and still not get him mad easy going. I think he has gotten angry maybe least twice in his life, and they would have been my fault.

I actually stumbled upon his stash of pornography last time I was at his house and I was happy to find he probably isn't gay, but I didn't find any highly agreeable pictures such as DowntownAmber's avatar either.

Well this is starting to look a bit like soup hmmm. – Male DOM
I am the middle child, kind of. My half brother is 8 years older and my half sister is 10 years younger so for the most part I was an only child. I too relate to Sir Russell's experience, absent parents, psycho step mother who tried to be very controlling. I have always had a low tolerance for those who tried to control me but I didn't know my dom side until I met DTAmber...Thanks Pet!
P.S. it is a nice avatar.
