Tonight F. and I were passing by the friendly neighborhood sex shop and we saw a gorgeous flogger made of 20-24 very light aluminum chains, about 18 inches long. I asked the store clerk if it was for real and she said that yes, some people actually use them on their slaves.

I looked at F. begging him with my eyes to ask the saleslady if he could take a couple of practice swings at me there in the store just to try it but he wussed out.

I had never seen anything like that and I think it would be a great birthday gift (mine or his, it does not matter, I am the one who is going to get a birthday flogging), but I am very curious to find out if anyone in this forum had ever experienced giving or receiving a whipping with such an implement.

It looks pretty innocent but even light metal is not very forgiving. I am a bit of a painslut and can take some harsh beatings but I still would like to know what I am getting into, so your feedback would be appreciated.

We can buy them in Canada, Barton, but the problem is that nearest store is about 3 hours from here (one that we know of anyway). Plus, there is about $2,000 worth of stuff in those boxes in Texas...which is what really gets us and some of it we never even had the opportunity to use.

My only previous experience with anything metallic was when I read "The Prussian Girls" and decided I wanted to try a whipping with a birch switch wrapped in copper wire like the one in the book.
I do not know if it hurt so badly because of the wire, (there were a few very thin cuts), but I was glad I had been very well tied to the bed and had a very thick gag in my mouth. Still, it was the kind of fun we now reserve for very special occasions.

Knowing F, I say he is going to make me try that metal flogger sooner or later.

Finding Fantasy, I don't know if you have thought of it , but would'nt you be able to ship your stuff to yourself via a private carrier. Perhaps UPS, Airborne, or even FedEx. Maybe customs does not check for those kind of items. Just a thought.

Actually, customs does. They're require the contents of the boxes being shipped to have a manifest label as well, meaning that legal compliance would require them to declare boldly on the shipping label that they're shyipping whips and dildos...

It's not just X rays, LD. They acrually open the boxes at customs. I have received a few boxes of other stuff from TG's mom and they always have this tape used to reclose the box that says "opened by customs"

You are right Gary. They do make you list everything that is in the box. And if they are ever in slightest bit of doubt that what you say on the label is in there. They will open it and ispect every inch of it.

See...ouch! Though the majority of the pain was probably from the copper wire. At least in my experience. I have been whipped with a birch branch when I was a kid. Not in an SM way but in a bully of an older brother sort of way across the back of my thighs in the summer time. It stung and left a few welts, but the sting went away after a few minutes. Kind of like being snapped with a towel.

Hello there -- out of curiosity, have you (or anyone else) had any experience with Customs seizing items?

There have been a number of books I've considered having shipped up here (i.e. from retailers as innocuous as the American version of Amazon, if the .ca version doesn't carry it) but I'm a little hesitant. Will Customs return the goods to the shipper if they disallow it (i.e. for a refund)? Or does it fall into this black hole? And at that, one that you're paying for...

I do know that Canadian Customs had a thing for gay and lesbian content -- especially gay and lesbian S&M -- for a while (i.e. until the Little Sisters book shop in B.C. took them to court) and they've had to relax it a bit since then. Anyway... I was just curious if anyone has experience with seized goods and what happened...

If the strands are braided or even if they are like strands of wire it should leave a fairly clean cut in the skin. More than likely it will cause a split in the skin if used too vigorously. The danger of infection is very real however, metal is notorious for its ability to cause infection when it causes a cut. Also be aware that all metal corrodes, even aluminum ( it oxidizes), this can cause much stinging and will greatly increase the chance of infection. If you do use this toy you might want to sterilize it before use.
I do not cite medical expertise as I am not a doctor. However I have been a carpenter most of my life and have seen on many job sites what can happen when a cut is caused by any metal. Careful Nikka.

Thanks for your imput, Curtis and Barton. The flogger in question is made of very small, round chainlinks so I am hoping there will be more bruises than cuts and F. is smart enough not to use it on unpadded body parts. He told me last night that it would be my birthday present, so I know what is comming. He loves the idea of making me wait for severe sessions like that. Knowing me, I will be so hot by then I will not feel a thing... or so I like to think.

I haven't had any adult items seized, but my mother in law tried to ship up some food and some of it was siezed at customs.

I don't think that you should have a problem with books, unless they are expressly pornographic. I mean if you try to bring a book like say, The Story of O or something like that across the border, I don't think that they would seize something like that.

Nikka, if the chain is what I am thinking, I don't think that it should cut your skin. Maybe bruise it a little, but I think you should be safe from cuts.

Firstly, I wanted to ask of exactly what sort of chain the floggger was made? Is it actual round chain? or the ball-chain links? I have seen both in the scene, but really can only speak from experience with regards to the latter.

We purchased a chain flogger of the ball-chain variety almost 4 years ago and it is still in regular use. It gives a pretty hard pounding and the tips of those balls can really sting but in all honesty, a braided flogger or one with those sharp metal tips is more painful. The chain is more of a heavy "thuddy" sort of pain. It actually feels pretty good.

Care and maintenance has not been an issue. We just keep it wiped down and away from damp. It has seen heavy usage and has not broken skin. In all honesty, it rather looks meaner than it is, although I wouldn't advice it for the "novice" as the flails can be slightly awkward sometimes (you definitely don't want to take it over bone or kidneys) and the sensation a bit intense.

I think you'll probably love it!

The flogger we are discussing is of the round chain variety, unlike the one you have. However each link is quite small, so I am hoping it will have the effect that you have described.

Well, after having been through the experience I will have to agree with kiya, this stuff is definitely not for beginners.

Last night was pretty busy, as I had failed to complete my subbie task from Thursday and I had already accepted anotherone for Friday. So I had lots to get through as it was. I guess the idea of breaking in our new metal flogger gave me the motivation to go through the more psychological trials that were imposed on me at the ST dungeon.
