    Preferable restraints

This is a general question to sud's and dom's I was wondering what everyone preferred to use, I mean I'm personally a rope man. Though I have used most methods before.

I will admit I'm hopping to inspire some discussion not just a simple 'that one' into the pro's and con's of each one as well as different methods each person has used. As a young dom it would be nice to here from other dom's about technique with each field not to mention subs who have enjoyed certain things especially, so please play along

Personally, I like to use a variety of things. Rope, of course, is something of a mainstay, but it also requires a great deal of skill and patience to use well. I personally have not mastered it, and sometimes I'm in something of a hurry. But I think it's hard to deny that some of the best, most artistic bondage is accomplished primarily by means of rope.

In general, I'm a big fan of using different devices in tandem in order to hold my sub in place. For example: attaching a rope to her hair that runs through her legs, and up to a chain between her nipple clamps. Or: tying her on her back, but leaving her head loose, but putting a non-drip candle in her mouth (non-drip candles still produce wax when not held at a right angle). She's not blindfolded, but if she tries to look up to see what I'm doing, she'll get wax on her neck. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

As far as leather, or metal, or other tradional restraints go, I don't have too much experience with many of those. I'm still too much on the move to have settled down and established a dungeon of any kind (I work out of a bag), so transportability is a must still. That said, I can't imagine getting by without handcuffs, or a good collar.

Thanks for your reply emerson, out of interest what type of rope do you use?, like I said I’m fairly young so don't have much experience beyond a few books that I’ve read mostly about Japanese bondage. Personally my sub and me prefer a silk rope, but you can only do whole or major body parts, because with rope thats soft it slides to easily so hair restraint is nearly impossible. Similar to you I work out of a bag, although in my case a box so I can appreciate the need for portability.

Leather cuffs -- they're quick and easy to attach and you can change positions and attachment points without a lot of effort (I prefer to expend my effort on the body and not the restraints).

If your submissive tends to lose control in any way and really pull, then look for ones with metal grommets reinforcing the buckle holes.

I learned that the hard way as kitten tends to lose control and likes to sink her claws into things at certain points. I was busy with something had a "what's that snapping noise? OW!"-moment.

Suspension cuffs are good too -- very sturdy and designed to be safe and comfortable when tension is applied -- but they're a bit more costly, typically.

But that's just the beauty of rope; it takes some time tying someone up and that way that person feels gradually more and more restrained and helpless.
The bondage actually evolves, becoming more complex (and more tight if you wish) taking away freedom a bit at a time.

I generally like the feeling of rope (scarves or stockings/pantyhose are nice also). It's warmer and softer than metal restraints, though I must admit I have never used cuffs before And leather cuffs, I don't know, they seem so... clinical?
I find that rope has more character, more spirit.

we like to use hemp or jute rope if you can find it, but we are big into shibari, for traditional ties (sans knots) rope that provides lots of friction is very helpful, especially when doing suspensions

i have had alot of different types of restraints used on me, everything from my own hair, to the quite simple belt around my throat as a leash, leather cuffs are great for comfort, metal cuffs are fun if allpied safely, duct tape can even be used in a pinch, zip ties even have thier advantages alltough i dont reccomed them, i even once was tied with a cargo strap

saftey first, is of prime importance, its easier than you think to develope a pressure ulcer and or complications from circulation restriction, or axphixiate in some cases

and ps,, rope can be very quickley done if the one doing the ties is well versed and has practiced the art for speed and effieciency as well as voyeristic apeal, practice practice practice makes perfect

a simple short length of rope can effectivly imobilize a girl faster than even zip ties or cuffs with a simple hitch or "capture" tie, look how much faster cowboys are at it than the guys on cops
When love beckons to you, follow him,Though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound thee

Two kids in the house = quick & convenient trumps the rope.

If I have more time, I use long silk scarves.

    The thing I have used

Over the years I have used, on my subs, have been:

Ropes, handcuff, soft medical restraints, leather wrist and ankle cuffs locked with pad locks and chains attched,

Mostly I use what is called for. I would just let the time and place tell you what to use.

Another one that hasn't been mentioned is plastic wrap, it's fast, it's simple and it's fun.
But maybe mummification isn't what you're looking for in this thread?

What about plain old bandages? The ones you use to keep a compress in place. They are a bit elastic, soft and I think they're strong enough too.

I second the plastic wrap comment. It's great for cold, winter days because it gets nice and warm for the sub, but you can still see everything.

As far as the kind of rope I use: I have a few different kinds. Every once in a while I make a trip to the hardware store and play around with the rope to test abrasiveness, or smoothness, and get something new according to what I need. I try not to get anything too rough, and I'm not so much a stickler for appearances that I'll sacrifice functionality and ease of use for a more aesthetically pleasing design. I tend to prefer either black or white rope (or brown, in the case of hemp). I also think that string is a valuable tool. I keep a spool of hemp string, and some other, softer strings as well.

I have actualy used plasic wrap once but never again, it ended up to tight and I was trying to be gental with it but it has a habit of titening very quikely. ot only that my sub didn't like it she said it was hot and sweaty and uncomfortable, though that may be the point.

thanks for your reply and to everyone else who has as well
