Ok has anyone read Anne Rice and her BDSM books? I have been downloading audio books for holiday gifts..I found one titled "Claiming of Sleeping Beauty". It has three parts to it and is FANTASTIC!!!

Do any of you know of any other books she writes that is like this, has any of you read this book?

sweetsboi, yes, i read all of Rice’s erotic books except Belinda, one i actually enjoyed the most was Exit to Eden. Beauty was not bad, well written as all of her stories.

Excellent excellent books! She writes that series under the pen name A.N. Roquelaure. I have all 3 and re-read them quite often. Gonna have to go check into Exit to Eden now.

I came across a news item lately that Anne Rice has re-discovered her (conservative) Catholicism and will not be writing horror or erotica anymore. She's 1/3 through a triology on the youth of Christ. She says everything she writes "will be for the Lord."

I have long ago noticed the struggle and love and hate relationship Anne Rice has with her God and the religion. In one of her best books (IMO) Memnoch the Devil, she has devoted almost all the book to God/Devil interaction.

While I enjoyed her books, most notably “Interview With the Vampire” , “The Vampire Lestat”, “Merrick” and “Blackwood Farm”; I found other books to loose my attention, due to the repetitiveness, the regurgitation of the story line of her previous books.

I enjoyed her Mayfair Witches too and found it most enjoyable when she had her Vampires and Witches meet. However, she started loosing the edge.
Her writing style is beyond reproach, so there is no doubt that the new book, what ever subject she might choose, will be worth reading. I hope that the new (rediscovered) interest in her religion gives her writing the passion and spark she lost.

I find that most writters need a good editor -- but when they hit the big time - the publishers are looking for word count - and the editors do not rip the book apart as much - and thus you get chapters that really should not be there (thinking of the Tommy Knockers by Stephen King - I think it should of been a short story -- but some how I wadded through the whole thing)

Anne Rice is one of the best writers out their IMO, her style is different from anyone elses.

I've been a fan for many years though my favourite are The Vampire Chronicles probably as i'm a huge fan of the characters in that particular series and vampires in general have always interested me :-[

Are you an editor? The way you speak I would guess you are. My mother was a proofreader for a newspaper and an editor for a long time while I was growing up so I understand (somewhat) how an editor thinks and speaks.

I myself am a short story and article writer. I am working on a book right now and almost have it done (if I can find time to finish the last section) titled "How To Be A Gentleman".

ohhhhhhhhhh -- no - not me -- I am not one -- but I do see the benefit of one!!!!

I think it is just like a good idea - it is better to share it with some one - and get their input - it makes it a BETTER idea -- sort of like these forums - if we share our concepts and ideas - then we have a more clear idea of what the point was that we wanted to make.

Oh - and I must say that I am BIG fan of Anne Rice's books, and the way she writes. I was just making a point about how famous authors, once they get to a certain point of their career - can have an industry that helped them at one point - actually negatively affect them later on. (It is good to be edited.)

Exit to Eden was stimulating and influenced my writing a little. I did not enjoy the Beauty saga but the vampire books were also interesting but Hamilton is better.

I very much enjoyed Exit to Eden. I tried to find her Beauty books but at the time I was in a small town and had no internet or credit cards so no dice. I will have to take a look for them again as I had heard good things about them.

I liked the Witching Hour very much. It is so well worn from reading, the binding is in terrible shape. IMO, it is much more creative, unique, and hot than the vampire series or Exit to Eden.

The Beauty series is very overrated. It is good reading for anyone who is into big time Domination, Humiliation and Masochism. Just my opinion.

I have the Witching Hour at home and I also liked it very much. I think it is time to reread it and the rest of the series too. I have some vacation time coming up and a serious reading binge may be just the thing.

I Agree with Nikita about the Witching Hour. That was one of the more creatively constructed books she has written. It is, in fact, my favorite Anne Rice novel.

As for her pornography, I found Exit to Eden to be a droningly long novel. She took fairly interesting characters and sucked the life out of them. She did the same with Belinda - which I did not finish.

I also managed to read the Beauty series. I was highly disappointed in this sseries. It was written plainly and unimaginatively. It was as if she was afraid to pepper it with descriptions that might have brought true life and reality to the story.

On the other hand, she got paid handsomely for those books while I get paid in reviews. So, who am I to talk?

I have the "Sleeping Beauty" trilogy and love it. I didn't read exit to eden but did see the movie. I liked the movie but am sure I would love the book more.

Isn't the internet marvellous? Earlier today I did not know Anne Rice had anything to her credit than the Vampire books, now I've got a whole rake of them downloaded, just time for a few chapters before bedtime, think I'll start with this "Sleeping Beauty" I've heard so much about today.

Her Beauty trilogy was too soft for my tastes. Which I wouldn't have minded except, again, I found her scenes to be repetitive. By the time I finished the trilogy, I felt like I had wasted my time.

If someone tells me that Exit to Eden is substantially different, I'll give it a go. But please, not if it's of the same ilk.

I'll assume that the movie had little in common with the book... save for the title...
