when you take that short trip, find a state that a senator or congressman can help you. Just tell them exactly what happened. Call them first before you fly back to book an appointment. It doesn't has to be the state you were first living in.

Stay in a nosy small town out of nowhere is not ideal. How did you two get stuck in a small town anyway? Why not stay at Vancouver or Toronto in the first place? I went to Vancouver on a few BDSM events, huge dungeon, it's very good, it's a big town, things are cheaper than a small town where everything is jack up several times the price tag. Toronto has huge BDSM event too, but that's one city I haven't try out for BDSM functions.
