From the viewpoint of an author, I have to say:

An orgasm is a necessary relief, when the intercourse-vocabulary is exhausted.

I don't envy those writers of non-BDSM erotica.
They have no whips, chains, ropes, dungeons, nipple clamps etc. to keep the readers happy.
