Earning your Leather

I know you haven't seen me in forever, yes I am still alive. I have come back because I am looking for information and I was sure with all the people here, someone could point me in the right direction. My local group is having a "wear your leather" party and when I brought up the thought of earning my leathers people looked at me like I was crazy. Does anyone know where I can find some information on how you go about earning your leather?

Go to Wikipedia and do a search on leather subculture. They have a pretty good article on the Old Guard Leather culture the the way Old Guard submissives earned their leather.

I looked at the Wik I don't recall seeing anything about how you earn your leather. They just talk about the Old Guard and New Guard, I went back to make sure I didn't miss something but I still don't see where is says how you go about earning your leather.

It usually involves do a sort of apprenticeship and working your way through a period of learning and training. Each group usually had or has their own definitions, requirements and levels of training. Your best bet on determining what is required of you is to find a group with which to join and begin learning there.
