If we wanted nothing but pictures we wouldn't be at this site. The imagination is the most powerful aphrodisiac of all. But a bit of pictorial assistance is always appreciated. Most of us, however, primed with a picture in our minds, attempt to enlarge on it and make it our own. That is why we write descriptive prose. We see a picture and elaborate her (in my case) in our minds. This is the beginning of character. Then we walk our character around our seen. This is the beginning of plot. Eventually we want our characters to take off on their own. This implies change. Thus character development. For each and every one of us, the exact mix of things that excites us varies and therefore each author's writing is a bit difference.

Ultimately, that which is the most expressive is the drawing. Unfortunately, that is the talent that the fewest of us possess. But the drawing allows us to summon that exact demon who graphically arouses us.
