    Story Codes

I hope I am placing this post in the right area of the site
I have 1 simple request of authors who post here, please make sure you place the right codes in your stories, I have read many stories that were listed as say NC/Humiliation or just blackmail and the story offered no indication of the codes, also a synopsis of your sotry would be nice as well, it helps draw readers into your post, but at the minimum if your intial chapter of a post does not include say blackmail, wait to list blackmail until that portion of the post is up
    thanks

It is not a simple request...

The story codes selected by the authors, are not meant to deceive, but rather, interpret how they relate to the story. :

Consider this...what if they want to have the scenes with those story codes appear later in the story, perhaps in a chapter not yet posted? I mean, this is not a paying job and you can always write an email to the author. But one of the benefits of anonymity, as a reviewer, is not being held accountable for what you post.

Some reviewers expect an extreme version of nc/humiliation, etc. where others judge the story on it's merits alone. You are not alone in using keywords to find the codes you want and are greatly disappointed when the stories don't meet the criteria.

I agree with you that some stories that have recently been posted have little to no synopsis, hence, will get skipped over by this reader, me.

Why did I choose this post of yours to respond to? Hmmm...how do I say this delicately? I'm an author who has been burned just a few times by your reviews for various reasons, *kiss, it's all good. Out of curiosity, I looked at the stories you've reviewed and you are consistent in your tastes.

Think about this, are some of the stories receiving those numerical ratings because they don't meet YOUR expectations of the codes, it is not extreme or brutal enough, or because the length is too short? Does the story and quality of the piece count in the plus side of the column? If these things are not on your list of criteria, I think your ratings are suspect at best.

I have seen stories knocked by reviewers for being exactly what the codes represented. Man, ya just can't win.

    More

I want to add support to Nikita here. I have been rather disappointed with a few reviews which were completely unhelpful. If I only receive a review that states "not my cup of tea" or "my kind of story", it doesn't really help. I want to know where I suck and where I shine. This is why my own reviews tend towards commenting on story flow, grammar and other technical aspects, as well as the story line itself. Sometimes I seem a little harsh, but I would want to know where I was suffering in my own skills.

What to consider when writing a review

This was written by Ruby and the link to it is posted right under the box where you write the review. I just cut and pasted it to post here and not just for mkemse.

Authors are working hard to present their fine works to you (for free !) and they deserve some recognition from you, readers. At least let them know your opinions. The easiest way is to write a review for a story.

A gentle reminder: Please refrain from judging the work based solely on its content. All stories on this site are accompanied with story codes and synopsis. They are there to give readers some advanced information on the type of content they contain. If you have an emotional issue with any particular type of content or gender code, do the author and us a service by not reviewing his or her work unless you can provide a dispassionate review that concentrates on style, writing skill, novelty, etc rather than your personal distaste for its content.

If such reviews are found, they will not be removed but may be ignored when counting toward the final review rating of the story. This does not discourage you giving low rating score, but please focus more on the story itself and provide a non-biased review. Take note Rabbit.

We also encourage you to give more constructive reviews and comments. A simple "Great story" note is ok, but authors and other readers will appreciate it if you can let us hear more. Here is a short reviewing guide provided by Ruby in the forums:

A challenge to all would be / not so frequent reviewers
Review one story a week. That's 4 a month and with that you could make the top ten reviewers list. One a week - you can do it!
(You'll find it becomes a habit whenever you finish a story and you'll do more if you are not thinking about it.)
Your reward - bragging rights, the right to complain that others aren't reviewing, satisfaction knowing that you helped others... whatever motivates you.
    Review writing made easy:
Rate the story based on the description given in the numbers.
    Those descriptions are very helpful.
One to three sentences will help the author and future readers. So without giving away the plot or story twists (spoilers) fill in some of the sample sentences. Strive for quality of comments instead of quantity.

The plot was _____ (believable, unrealistic, wonderful, well conceived ....)
    The visual descriptions were _____
    The characters were ___
I liked this story because ____
I thought this story could use a bit of work on ____ (dialog, grammar, ...)
    My favorite character(s) was/were _____ because ____
Needed a warning - please add code ____

Or go with your gut - and tell everyone what you felt/thought:
Samples below - I'm sure you can create your own.

Great writing style kept me wanting more long after I was done.
The story had me reaching for my vibe.
This story was so hot I had to grab my partner.
A perfect story for reading to your partner while they are tied and waiting
    in anticipation.

    There's nothing to it
Just be polite, have fun and do your best.

I'd love to see some story codes that help me find stories that relate to particular fantasies.

For example. Strip poker. Dungeon. Boarding School. Summer Camp.

...or maybe just a good search engine into the story database for this purpose. I might have a fetish for girls named Amber.

Anyone who thinks that it's a simple request can read my next story & put the codes on for me!

That was practically the hardest part of the whole process, working out what the story codes 'should' be.

I mean what is 'non consensual?' What if it isn't to start with, but becomes consensual? Or vice versa...

I find it hard enough to write the damn story, people can read it or not- it doesn't bother me.

Also- as Nikita says - As far as I know, none of us 'great authors' are being paid. Stop me if I'm wrong, but I believe we're providing a free service to entertain people?

Thanks Nikita & thanks to Oz for the great story ideas. My 10 part series has already begun ' Jeannie plays strip poker at summer camp then gets thrown in a dungeon under a boarding school'

    Be happy & enjoy guys.

(Thanks for the reviews btw- the majority were excellent.)

Happy to support new (& experienced) subs/Doms in any way I can.

good points Tojo---and some authors do not bother to put in codes at all---I guess they expect me to do it---lol and I am glad you pointed out that "None" of us is getting paid for this ---it is a free service ---but everyone wants to complain about it ---how stories are writen ---how they are published ---when they are published ---why are not more chapters writen---and OH my God you misspelled a word --or your grammar should be better

Now for the life of me --I have been trying to figure out --exactly what people expect for free? why not just sit back and enjoy what you are given ---and complain about what you have to pay for.

ah well "People" can't live with them and against the law to Kill them---lol

Yes there is a search engine in the future and I think much simplier story codes----But there again with the new software---it will be free and some of you may not like it ---People tend to resist change---some of you will like it

All I know is it will make publishing stories less time consuming --and submittals all in one format. A simple copy and paste your story on the submittal form ---easier access to your own member info --so you can change your own email address at any time ----

I thank all the authors---for their time ---and commitment to writing----and I thank Tiger---who with out his buying this site ---it would have closed.

I thank the Mods ---who volunteer their time on this forum ---whos help here frees me to spend more time publishing and updating stories.

I thank the readers of the stories ---Who keep coming back and keeping the authors ---writing----

All of us are a part of this site ---and very nessary ---There are things we like about the site and things we do not like---but that is the way life is---you have to take the good with the bad---and make the best of it.

and one more time-----Hey it is free!!!!!!
