Yeah, I can definitely see the appeal.

It is possible to get past the "suspension of disbelief" issue with a weapon (being aware that it's a fake or a prop) if you're deep enough in sub-space or "in character." I have been in that position, not with guns, but with knives, which are a bigger fantasy for me personally.
