I, too, enjoyed the read. The author's commitment to a narrator/main character who is completely without moral limitations in pursuit of his own gratification is really compelling.
It's been awhile, but I don't recall him even once "apologizing" for acting out the outrage he engages in. The result: it gives me "permission" to just enjoy the sadism and self-centered hedonism of an ugliness we all know is hidden down inside.
