I love hearing success stories like that of how a couple turned their online relationship into a real life one. While I have never had an online relationship like that, I do have online friends whom I've known for years. Similar to what you said, my friendship with them is also much more real than any of the friendships I had in real life before. Sadly they live too far away from me, but I did have the chance of meeting one of them earlier this year briefly. I think the reason online relationships/friendships work is because you really get to know someone without worrying about how you look or being nervous at first, and you have time to think about what you really want to say before you say it.
