I completely agree with that - being called his pet is definitely a short-cut to feeling extra submissive for me. It is used in and out of play, as are kitty and kitten. Those are sometimes warnings that i'm being bratty though. "Kitty..." with the certain tone/glare basically means "chill out"/sit; "Good kitty" isn't so much a compliment as a command (knock it off/be good!). I sometimes get "bitch flashes" where i'll suddenly say something particularly cranky or catty, and he uses those to get me out of the mood swing instead of letting it escalate. And when he brings out the rolled up newspaper...
