Astrology is one of those things, like quantum physics, homeopathy and ghosts, which I have to accept even though I don't understand how it works. (I've met a ghost, and it scared me sick, so it would be unscientific to go on disbelieving in them just because I don't know what they are.) I agree with those who point out that the proposed mechanisms for astrological effects are impossible (the gravitational influence of the planets on a child being born on the earth's surface is weaker than the gravity of the people around the bed), but all that proves is that we need to discover a different mechanism. In the 19th Century scientists were sure the Solar System couldn't be more than a few thousand years old, because the Sun would have burnt up all its fuel by now if it were older. Their reasoning wasn't wrong, they just didn't know about nuclear reactions.
