    I want to learn

I want to improve my writing. I love writing but I know there are plenty of grammar and punctuation problems and wish to learn how to recognize them and fix them. Although I know that I do need an editor I still want to find most of these myself. I do have a story posted at the Library and in the Short Takes thread...most like my stories but sometimes I feel that the members are too nice. I do want to improve my writing so I would like to join this forum so I can learn to do just that.

    Thank You

*Pops her head in*...Well, I am planning on becoming an English major (Highschool teaching that is...), so I would be more than happy to be your editor..Or one of them. I'm pretty picky when it comes to English, just ask Sir. *blushes* So, if you are interested, or if anyone is, I'd be more than happy to help I'm by no means perfect, but of course "practice makes perfect..." Or so the saying goes.

I dabble in little sexy stories. I have a one-person audience, but would be willing to take on assignments for her. Any recommendations?

I was being general. At the moment I am open to be a proof reader for whomever might need one. I was responding to the above post by submissivewife (again, openly), because she had said that my PMs were not available and Email was not shown. I figured out how to open my PMs.

Rabbit - I was referring to this: assuming the tasks are writing-related?

Proofing your own work is difficult because one tends to scan-read their own work... knowing what's coming.

To be effective one has to read it word for word as if they were reading it for the very first time. It also helps if one can "recognize" that mispelled words look wrong.

    Submissive wife,
A few words if I might:

    1) the real key is like Ozme said, proofing your own work. The best way to do this is how we do it normally. Use your ear. Re-read your work outloud and if it sounds funny or strange, then there is something wrong. All the puncuations mean something, like commas or appostrophies; remember to use the proper puncation for the situation.

    2) Having someone else go through and correct mistakes can be a bit irratiting (at least to me, but I'm a perfectionist... what do I know). I would, however, go to your local community college and pick up this book "Keys For Writers, By Anna Raimes, copyright 2005 Fourth Edition". You can also get this online as well through Amazon.com. Also, if your not aware of how colleges work with books, they have contracts with the publishers to buy the newest edition books, even when there was almost nothing changed. It's a scam, but what can ya do.

    3) You might even think about taking a grammar course at your local community college. Most people don't really know anything about languages least of all the one that they speak. For instance, most people know what a noun is, but could they tell me what a superlative is? or a possive article? Probably not. Colleges today are offering many online courses, and if you are truly interested in improving, supplying structure to it might be a good thing. Thats what I do for my subbie, but that's cause we both need order to understand things.

    4) Enjoy your writing. These are you most personal thoughts because they come from you. They show your creativity, your beauty, your elegance and most of all who you are through the emotions you create when you right.

I offer all of this advice in-part or in-whole. I have been requested to tutor in our campus' writing center for multiple terms, but I'm not an english major, I'm a physics major... so that's all a bit superfluous to my already budding career.

    Enjoy!

    Hi all,

I am a beginning author as well. Even though I have been doing this as a hobby for some time, I'd like some of my work to be published someday.

What I need work in is my grammer and a little work on my story lines.

Rabit1 I'd be interested in looking at level 1, thank you.
