My Child

I can’t tell you life will be easy
your heart won’t be broken
say that things will go your way
that you will succeed

I can’t say life is full of joys
When they are not
Life can be hard
Difficult to manage

I can’t say you’ll have riches
For, for most that is not true
Work is a way of life
Everyday turning into the same

I can’t say choices are easy
For they are not
Some easier than others
Most hard to make

I can’t say you won’t hurt
For I do wish you would not
It will happen, for such is life
But I am here to salvage the wound

Keep in mind what I can’t say
But know what I CAN say
I love you my child
This I can say and know will always be
