    Thumbs down 60 Day Password?

What's with the 60 day Password thing? Is there a place where I can wave that security option? I'm perfectly happy never changing my password until I feel the need.

    SBBE...

This was brought up the other day. It was something Rabbit changed back in August, requiring it. Since that point the rules have changed again to not require it. Problem though is that we were having a hard time finding the settings... and, since last week, have found what we thought were the settings but it didn't correct it all the way apparently. Bottom line, it requires a lot of buttons to push and in a certain fashion, which Rabbit knew and did... the rest of us are trying to learn that process now and figure out what he did. Please be patient, we are working on it!!!!

So "change" it to the same password if you prefer. It doesn't check the old v. new password you provide.

Are you sure? I had to change mine again and it wouldn't let me go back to the previous password. Hard to believe the software would do that but still let you reuse the current one.

Okay, I believe you. Someone slipped up there, though.

I've successfully "changed" it twice, directly from password1 to password1 without an intervening password2.

You really have to be sneaky when you try to 'break' programs. Because that's what users do 'by accident.' LOL

Seeeee.. part of the problem! The software doesn't even understand itself!

(And I get the same message, "you can't reuse a password," etc.)

Surely it is just a setting in the admin's control panel for the site.
I know for my own site I can add passwords and for members have to change their passwords every so often.

I also had extra software which was added to the main programme. Maybe Rabbit had a script like that for the software. If that is the case, you will have no hope in hell in removing the password thingy.

I don't get why this is such a big issue. If you set your password as hippo, then just put it as hippo1, then next time hippo2 and on. It's a minor inconvenience, but no big deal, eh? Surely you have other passwords on other sites... shrugs... Or just do what I do and scream at the stupid program for making me reset it. Then I just change it from hippo to hippo1 and back to hippo again.

The issue is very simple, why should we need to change our password every 60 days

Absolutely sure. I've done it twice so far. What can I tell you. The first time I 'challenged' an operating system, lo these 30+ years ago, I brought down an IBM mainframe using UNIT=VIO for a quick sort. No one believed me. I had done it twice over the course of the day and brought it down twice. Not one to believe to much in coincidence, I called the operations center, was told it was impossible, and counted down for them prior to pushing the ENTER button and bringing it down a third time. Only THEN did someone look to see how VIO had been implemented... and yeah... that was me.

Actually delia, a proper password change routine will keep a list of your last 12 (monthly) passwords and make you use something new. Not only that, but it will check for partially repeated strings to disallow just changing the numeric part of the password. No keyboard strings (like 'qwerty'), no repeated letters, and no 'apparent dates.' LOL

We are not. Are not, are not, are not. Just...a little twisted. A very little.

And the password thing? Doesn't seem like such a big deal to me - I just do it and move on.

Ok... trust me we understand that no one likes the password issue. WE don't like it. As I stated earlier we are working on it. Will it be resolved before the next 60 day cycle if up? We hope like hell it is and are working towards that, but we can NOT gtd. that.

There are so many wonderful things on this site... please be patient with some of the minor annoyances....

I suspect Ozme changed from password1 to password1 at the first time of asking. Thus there was no "list" of forbidden words to check. But the moment you create password2, password1 becomes a no-no.

I don't even want a password on this site. But I suppose I'll have to put up with it still.
