Question What's the hook and how soon?

This may seem pretty obvious, but is getting right to the act itself the hook of a good story? How soon should the sex commence?
I am trying to write a story for the site, but I've been struggling a little bit. I've been caught up in description and back story, which I know can be tedious. So I suppose that I'm just wondering how long you'll read without a money shot taking place?

Well, it sort of depends on what you're trying to write and who your audience is. Sure, there are a lot of horny souls that want to have action from the first paragraph. Does that fit with the story you're trying to write? Remember that it will be your name on the posted story.

If you think the story is a slow starter put that warning at the beginning. Or, you can always start with a teaser in the first paragraph to set the hook before setting the scene.

In most of my stories, the sex doesn't usually happen before the second or third chapter. There may be humiliation earlier but I do think that there needs to be time to develop the characters. In my mind, much of D/s is mental. It is hard to see that if your readers haven't gotten some backstory before you get into the action.

Personally, I prefer a story with a bit of sex in it rather than sex with a bit of a story around it. So I suggest you put it in where it fits in best (haven't I heard that somewhere before?).

Other than that, I don't think there are any rules.

Even in erotica (or should that be especially in erotica?) the hook doesn't have to be headboard-banging, hot monkey sex. In fact, for me anyway, no matter how hot the sex is, if it is happening between two (or more) people i don't know anything about and don't care about, it still falls flat.

The hook only has to make the reader want to read more.

No. The hook of a good story is the story. This isn't pop music where you need a tune the populace can hum thoughtlessly.

How soon should the sex commence?
This is erotica we are talking about, right? What does sex have to do with erotica? Hell, I have seen stories with sex that had zero erotic qualities and I have read stories with no sex that were extremely erotic. What are you trying to write again?

I am trying to write a story for the site, but I've been struggling a little bit. I've been caught up in description and back story, which I know can be tedious.
You know what is really tedious? Sex stories that are written with little care, skill or thought. I have a lsit of them - would you like to read it?

So I suppose that I'm just wondering how long you'll read without a money shot taking place?
If by money shot you mean no sex - well, I've more than one story with no sex and I've several with very little sex. They were received pretty well.

You know, you can write masturbatory dreck for the Plebians who want to stroke their cocks or you can write for quality erotica for yourself and the rest of the civilized world. Sure, the masturbatory crowd will love you - then again, they go to sleep right after.

    Hi delish

    OK........

What i like to see in a story is character development......****acement......the ability to describe a scene. Characters that have....well....character.

The "hook" in a story..........is the story. Not just one part

If it takes 10 chapters to build good tension....then the rest will follow. Something as small as the electric shock of an accidental touch.......is erotic.

Write what you like and enjoy....write a story that pleases you. If your story is making you happy......that is all that really matters.
