Now that you brought it up. I have wondered, especially after viewing pictures like you posted of caning marks, how one endures that type of punishment. I'm not really saying what I want to ask. I can see how they would enjoy it at the time but how do they cope with the pain of just sitting down for days afterward? I would think it would have to hurt. Maybe that is all part of it and for days they have the constant reminder of the pleasure they received while getting the caning. Am I think wrong here? I have seen some really sever welts and even cuts on some asses and wonder how they can even take a shower or bath without it hurting like hell. I know they have to be masochistic but how do they even perform everyday tasks after such sever beatings?

well at first you start off slowly with caning----that is why the use of a safe word is so important ---if things get too intense then the sub says the safe word and all action stops----but it is a slow build up of pain endurence

there is nothing more erotic to me than an over-the-knee spanking; hand to bottom. geez, just talking about it makes me wet. I don't think of it as a punishment, but I don't consider it a reward either. i think for me it's the humiliation of bending, bare-bottomed over someone's knee that arouses me so. Hmmmmmmm. Am also very happy to think some more about it.........and maybe just a little bit more - but before I get too distracted by thinking:

I consider it as being something we both enjoy, I could write an essay on why I think that might be, but it does not distract from the simple D/s and S/m pleasure.

I have never been spanked as a punishment (at least as an adult), and it seems an odd idea to me to do so, although I have come to realise that many do not feel as I do on this matter.

Being spanked, caned etc is a fun and pleasurable activity - in my head to associate that with displeasing my Dom would not only be confusing but potentially damage something very special to us, with the additional risk of be being deliberately naughty so I could be punished.

Punishment for me is normally something akin to corner time, where I am forced to think about my actions and how I have displeased him. This can leave me feeling so low, it is always followed by a time of reconciliation.

Seems to be a mixture of both in my house: I dole it out as 'punishment', normally for cheekiness/mischieviousness or some other fun-type 'offence'.
It's done playfully but it is adminstered quite hard (often my hand hurts like hell so I can only imagine what her derriere feels like!) as it is intended to clarify who is in charge. However it would seem to be always accompanied by 'pleasure' for her as she never shies away from it, even when I smack a little too hard or miss my intended target area, and I do believe the challenge of taking the pain without giving in to it is a big part of the pleasure.

Certainly the physiology and psychology of this is complex, but then aren't most things which are fun?

I've never understood the "hit me with something uintil I'm physically damaged" thing, but to each their own. I for one don't do the caning thing. Bare hand on the other hand (no pun intended) is great. Both as punishment and as pleasure. No reason something can't be both!

My sub also seems (actually I know) enjoys spankings as well as various other painful stimulation (nipples pinched,bitten) I think she will misbehave just to have this punishment inflicted upon her. Afterwords she does ask forgiveness none-the-less. Being a newb I don't know if this is right wrong or indifferent?

I just don't like the idea of any kind of beating for punishment, but then, I'm not crazy about pain. It just seems like it can get out of hand too easily. Because of that, I'd have to say that if a Dom/me was planning to use any kind of spanking as a punishment, I'd prefer to see it done by hand, because that way, he/she feels it, too.

Personally, if I'm getting spanked, I'd rather it be by hand. I'll tolerate the belt, but not as much as I can the hand. By hand is far more likely to get me excited.

Spankings.....one can love them or hate them depending on the situation.

In our home spanking is done for both pleasure and punishment.

Pleasure: Use the hand or a cane or even a lite impact with a wooden paddle. The attached picture is of a submissive I was playing with, and she indicated she didn't feel any of the pain from previous play.
