    Bdsm- by color?

Alright... I know this is about BDSM... but I figured it fit best in the politics section.

This is not something that really matters to me, but I've noticed and wondered if I am the only one.

It seems that porn in general is geared towards white males... of course you have certain type aimed at others.. but primarily, this is what it seems.

Now.. BDSM.. it seems most geared towards white people.. and asian people.

Rarely do I meet people who are of other ethnicities such as African american or Spanish that are into this lifestyle.

This is not to generalize but I was just curious if anyone else has seen this and wondered about it.

Do you think this is true?

    Why do you think it?

It doesn't bother me by any means and I don't mean this to sound stere-yo-type-ish.... but its just what I kinda think..

so what do y'all think? Do you think there is a reason for it?

    -Anya-
My hands are searching for you My arms are outstretched towards you
I feel you on my fingertips My tongue dances behind my lips for you
I can feel you all around me Thickening the air I'm breathing Holding on to what I'm feeling
    Savoring this heart that's healing
My hands float up above me And you whisper you love me And I begin to fade Into our secret place

I'm of Indian (not native american) decent and am into bdsm.

But to your question, I can only guess the answer (or part of it).
BDSM is shown a lot in Japan in those comics that it has almost become an accepted norm, so anyone embracing a bdsm lifestyle isn't so far of mainstream.
I think a lot of people in the world have either dom or sub tendancies, but due to social restrictions, taboos in society, religion, and customs, they may never even see the lifestyle that they subcontiously desire.

As for the white males part, I have no idea atm.

I've got two friends who are black women as in straight out of the jungle in Africa. The amount of shit a black woman has to put up with in life is astounding. I think the effect of preconceptions from whites, other blacks and even other black women is impossible to even imagine if you're not a part of it. These two girls are smart enough to realise that they have to reinvent themselves if they are to get any control of their lives. Which means not being part of anything even remotely alternative. Both are extremly liberal and very open about anything. We have discussed BDSM and they are interested. It's just that they can't afford it if they want to do anything with their lives. Being able to chose your life style is a luxury in the world today.

I know a couple of black guys who are into it. But they're American. Blacks don't really have a seperate culture over there do they? So I'm not sure if it counts.

Oh, they do. And some black people will accuse others of "acting white" if they don't behave according to its dictates. There's even special slang for it.

Hm... among some non-white people in this country, there seems to be a perception that homosexuality is something only white people do. Even the ones who are actually having gay sex sometimes find ways to rationalize it as something other than being gay or bi. I wonder if there's something similar going on with BDSM. If it's seen as a white thing, then maybe non-white folks who might be interested in it won't try to explore them or get in touch with people who know about it.

Its crazy because.. I realize that in other cultures the males being Dominant over the females is just life.. like in Asia and Africa... etc....

but... it just seems like its rare to meet someone of another background here who is actually INTO Bdsm... you know?

Where I live and where I came from ... it just depended.... there are a lot of people who have come here from other countries... my new hubby is actually Phillipino.. his mother is from there...

there are those who choose to be a part of a racial stereotype.. I guess you could say... you have those who are in the gangs of their race.... here its a lot of asian and spanish gangs ... and the italian and russian mafia.... (where i live.. not in the USA in general)

I have met here.... people who are indian... black... spanish who are in the lifestyle.. it just doesn't seem as common. My ex Dom was actually Indian ( forgive me if that is not the correct term... I know sometimes there is a preference depending on where exactly you are from ) and he was great... so... -shrug- doesn't matter to me what or who you are when it comes to all this.. its just rare to find someone who is not a white male...

Indian is correct, most people don't know the subregions anyway.

I have one black girlfriend who's bdsm "parents" made her go to a recent (or she is going) conference hosted by the african american bdsm society or some such name. She was a little freaked out by the idea, wondering what they might think of her and her white playmates.

I am from a majority black city and have only met a few black folks who seems serious about bdsm. Then again, I try not to get out much.

Porn is definately aimed at males, though can be easily enjoyed by females that are openminded as well, my opinion. Why do I say it is aimed at men? Because they usually don't focus much on the men, just the women and the man dick or hand or whatever....not often their faces... Why is this? Dunno, maybe most of the producers and pornographers are straight men or bi women???

There is also, still being fueled and still so on fire, the backlash of the real slavery that existed in the South, I am from the South, and even I a white woman have a hard time taking the term slavery seriously if it is a choice.

Black people down here know what it is like to be submissive and beat down, perhaps if you get it on that level, in everyday life, you don't want to take it to bed...

It seems you could find the truly sadistic or dom types easier according to profession, i hear alot of cops are into it, and i imagine there are other professions that bespeak other kinks...

    Interesting question.

Cops, lawyers, teachers and writers are the most prevalent professions i have discovered as Doms.

i have no idea what that would mean.

I am an office manager, but want to go back to school and study journalism.
Currently I am studying music and hope to teach one day.

I have always read that a significant amount of subs hold high powered or stress jobs, and thier personal lives are well controlled. I have never really heard anything about Doms.

I do know that the majority of cops I am aquainted with are abusers rather than Doms, maybe the smart ones follow the lifestyle path.

I'm artist/graphic designer. I've got the impression that creative jobs or working with computers is popular. Or maybe this is just very common in the whole society nowadays... I was a bit surprised that this "bad nurse"-image isn't just a prejudice. I've met about five nurses and always thought "poor, poor patients..."
About the white men: Pornography is commerce most of the time. Who has money to expend for fun? The white men...

The majority of people I know that are into BDSM are white, but I don't doubt that many people of other ethnicities enjoy it just as much as we do and are just as prevalent.

Since we're trying to determine what jobs submissives have, I'm going into a clinical field working with Children.
