One of my friends so just told me about this.

*quitely mourns the death of Steve Irwin*

On the bright side... atleast he died doing what he loved.

I too am shocked by this. It has been all over the news here. He did a lot for the environment and I feel sad for his wife and children. It was Father's day here yesterday, and I bet they didn't think it would be the last one they would celebrate.

They say the way he died was almost unheard of and has only happened twice before in Australia. He will be missed.

At first I didn't think anything was amiss when I saw the tag for this thread, but then I read the story on Yahoo! while checking my e-mail. I was stunned to silence. It's hard to believe he's gone; he was such a vigorous person! My thoughts go out to his family. He will be missed.

Seen conflicting reports about where he was struck by the ray. One said in the head, another said in the chest. Either way, makes me think twice about wanting to go diving in the ocean.

The man lived in rather close proximity to verry dangerous animals. I am not surprised he was killed doing what he loved. Just feel for the loss his family now has to cope with.

It seems he was hit in the chest, while he was swimming over the top of it. The reports are saying it was a freak thing and that the ray must have turned suddenly for some reason.

    Such a waste!

*gulps* it's really hard to imagine this vibrant guy dead...my mind can't really make the shift. Have a good swim with your dangerous friends in heaven, mate! We'll miss you.

This is so true, MajesticFae. I just read this on Yahoo and was deeply saddened. I feel terrible for his wife and children as they are so young.

They just mention it on CBC Radio Newscast. His show is available on Discovery Canada. He will be surely missed by a lot of fans.

I'd have to admit the guy gave me a royal pain, but I will still miss him.

To leave a young family behind is doubly sad.

The news here described the accident as "freakish" and that's the best term for it. Rays are generally afraid of people and stay away as best they can. I can only imagine the circumstances that startled the ray and prompted the attack. Such a shame. He will be missed.

It just seems so bizarre to me, given all the other uber-dangerous creatures he worked with. To have such a random, odd thing happen and actually kill the guy - it really is a shame.
Simply put, the pain of not being with you is unbearable.

    It's tragic.

We've lost an outstanding spokesman for wildlife protection and education.

I agree. He will be missed.

To bad about Irwin. But at least he died doing something he loved. I think.
