    Story Competition.

I am interested in discussing a story in the Second Story Challenge - Eliza.

I really enjoy this one, so despite its very obvious problems, I gave it a rating of 10.

I know that's more than it's worth in terms of the story per se, but the author could easily, in my opinion, 'compete with published authors'. Ok, I know that's not the criteria for the competition, but since people who know a lot more about it than me are doing the judging, I figured it didn't really matter all that much. I'm sure others will enjoy it also, despite its problems.

It's frustrates me no end that the author seems to have rushed this story, probably to get it posted in time. It just seems like such a crying shame.

Now, I'm simply dying to find out who wrote it, so I can read more of his or her work, and hopefully a revises edition of this one.

Something else I noticed with the competition, too, is nearly all the stories began with high ratings from both regular and first time reviewers, but then dropped off. I looked for a rhyme or reason for this, but apart from the one mention above, couldn't see one.

remember that published authors have paid editors to proof their work and offer suggestions etc...that goes along way. I'm sure there are more than a few published authors out there that depend on a good editor to make sense of their work..

So when you say this author could in your opinion compete with published authors, I think you are right. All they might need is a good editor.

    I must read it.

There is a low attention span on this site, once the updates with new stories arrive, the viewings of 'older' stories shrinks.

I noticed that to, Alex--that the ratings dropped incredibly on some stories I thought were really good. But I can't even pay attention to those reviews anymore, anyway--ever since I heard about the dink that circumvented the system to get some 70 reviews. The only reviewers I'd believe would be the forum regulars and the accomplished authors.
