Lessons Learned

My mistakes I have seen
This lesson I must glean
From flame to ash and into dust
I feel I do what I must

Time will pass as it will
This void I cannot fill
Such raw hurt carried inside
My own sin I must abide

The pain I will not know
For those seeds I will sow
Now is for living, learning
Now is for wishing, yearning

Something I dare not think
Is how far down I will sink
Slippery slope of this emotion
Drowning in the ethereal ocean

But I cannot let them see
How can this be me?
Never the one to show fear
Never the one to let them near

I wish upon the stars
Through these icy bars
My mind's own isolation
Against my own alienation
