here is the background to the question. it was my birthday last week, and when everyone asked what i wanted, i said - nothing. because there is nothing physical that they can give me that i really want. i mean i appreciate the presents i got, of course i did! but i dont really WANT anything.

now i got to thinking about this.
a) do i not want 'things' just because i dont trust other people to get things that i like?
b) am i sick of 'things' because i really cant have the 'things' i want?
OR
and this thought came to me this evening
c) MAYBE this is a step in my growth as a slave, maybe i dont want 'things' because as a slave i am not entitled to 'things'.
and all i really want is my MAsters love and approval to be happy.

what do you think?

or am i just going through a zen phase that i will grow out of?

Very deep thoughts. Perhaps it's a bit of "all of the above".

While you however may not want "things", friends and family feel very good when they buy "things" to celebrate milestones in your life.

If you reallly don't want physical goods, perhaps you can ask people to make a donation to a favorite charity this year, or to just send you a card.

Side comment: Not every definition of a slave is the same. Many slaves own property, stocks & bonds, businesses, and other items that will see them through their retirement. Just because you don't want physical goods today, doesn't mean you won't need them tomorrow.
Food, shelter, medicines when needed, and clothing (optional) are very important to your health and well being.

Not knowing the financial arrangements you have with your owner, I would argue that knowing you have a form of financial security not dependent on others can be just as important.

i think that's beautiful, and that (c) may very well be true. i'm finding that acceptance of slave status, and all the many things it entails, seems to sink in, little by little, day by day.

As far as 'things', possessions, i have realised that i no longer HAVE any possessions. Anything i 'own' belongs, by extension, to my Owner.

maybe you just don't have an desire for any new stuff right now, and there's nothing more to it. it happens. i think as we get older we tend to appreciate more of what we have already as opposed to always wishing and wanting for what we don't have. maybe your just happy where you are in life.

I've never wanted anything for my birthday (well, since becoming an adult), or Christmas. or whatever ... I've always prized affection and time spent together, loyalty and the desire of my partner, and the quality of relationships and loving touch of the eyes, more than a new tie or Porsche.

And I'm not submissive.

LIke Ruby says, people like to get things for you if they like you, so I'm grateful to for all the things I don't want or need because they're an extra touch ... sometimes from someone I didn't know was there!

well Miss Ruby, i too am concerned for my financial security. not concerned as in 'overly worried', just as in i think i should think about it and secure it.
so, (and also, cos my MAster tells me i should do this) i am building myself an MLM business so that i have residual income and can build an asset base.
i would just like to know that any bills that i incur or costs that arise, can be met without drama.
and as you yourself know and have stated i beleive, just because one is a slave does not mean they took out their brain!!
and my Master does like to have intelligent conversation, so it pays to keep up with things. anyway, am getting off on a tangent here!

Did you ever come to any conclusions about your deep birthday thoughts?

actually Ruby i did! i now think that i just want out of this part of my life so badly and to get on with the next that i just want to go.
you know what i mean? like i just want to walk away from this, with nothing but myself, and go to Him and start my new life.
but it is one step closer to knowing myself, and who i am and how i tick.
