It's been a very interesting day in Australian Politics, our Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was given the boot by his own party as a result of his falling public approval. There's an election on the horizon and I think the party decided that it was best to change leaders in order to be able to retain government at the upcoming election.

Julia Gillard is our new Prime Minister.

She was chosen by the Australian labor party as our new Prime Minister. She just happens to be the very first female Prime Minister of Australia (Go Girl Power). I don't know much about her but she was a lawyer before becoming a politician and she can be witty with her words. It will be interesting to see how she goes.

Anyway, Oz now has an unelected socialist leader, just like Gordon Brown was in the UK. Will it keep Labour in office, or will the electorate kick her out of The Lodge at the first time of asking?

The precedents aren't good.
