    Private Messages

My Private Message folder is now nearly full with messages which I do not wish to loose. Is there an easy way to archive these? I could obviously copy and paste them all into a text file of some sort, but wondered if there was a more elegant solution.

    Thanks in anticpation

    Downloading

Look down under your messages where it says Download all Private Messages. I just clicked Text and saved them to a file.
I love this. Wish the academy had it.

To preserve the formatting, you could save 'as web page', but the easiest is to save as text as SBBE says. There's also the option to save as XML, whatever that is...Text is quite a neat way of doing it.

Yes my other forum you can have about 300 or so in your folder- it's a bit of a shock only having 70 before the folder is full!

Thank you SBBE and Tojo. I had got to the point where I was working on a buffer of about 5 empty slots. Is lovely to suddenly have a nearly empty folder again.

the reason for the low limit is so many inactive members ---they get hundreds and some never come back ----so with over 16,000 members and hundreds of PMs stored ---that is quite a lot of resourses tied up ---on another forum ---somehow the PMs became corrupt ---and we lost the whole PM system ---all stores messages were gone----so it is best if you save your PMs on your computer --that way if the system crashes or anything you have not lost your important PMs

Oh I hear you Rabbit- wise words oh great one. My other forum crashed when I had over 200 PMs I hadn't saved- I was grinding my teeth that day! My PM box is my favourite room on this forum.

Wow I find that amazing it drives me nuts.
The first thing I do if someone wants to pm is suggest chat or email. I'm constantly worried I'll fill the thing up, and it's so slow. (Not criticizing you guys it's the software or hardware). I do love that it sends out an alert. I must admit I love looking down on my screen when yahoo beeps and seeing “bdsm forum Hawk_Fann Pm” or something similar. Keep up the great work admin.

Oh so that's why you've never sent me a PM SBBE?

There I was thinking I was losing my appeal!

Extensible Markup Language (XML) and it is being pushed by Microsoft's next version of Office. They are even to release tools to enable older versions of Office to convert, open, or save files to this format. This my understanding of it anyway. I'm could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.
