Stephen left the bedroom and headed back to his office. The hours the last few days had been punishing and he had pushed his staff beyond endurance. He knew they were all exhausted but it was imperative that the move be accomplished as soon as possible. He called Tom in to the office.
"Where do we stand?"
Tom slumped into the chair. He face was haggard. He had been going almost non stop for two days.
"We are on schedule. The paperwork on the property sale will be here tonight. The closing is scheduled for tomorrow morning. The russians attorneys will be at the bank to sign everything in the morning. He has promissed to fund out in cash at that time. That should be interesting considering the price you are getting for this place. It may take an entire armoured car to move it."
"I don't care if it takes the whole fucking US Army to move it. See that it gets moved."
Tom nodded, glancing at his notes.
"The movers are scheduled to be here tomorrow afternoon. Everything but your personal apartments is already crated and packed. It should be on the boat headed for the island by day after tomorrow. It won't arrive at the island until about 10 days later. It has to go through the canal and that is a long trip."
Stephen nodded. "Ok, what are the plans for the between time. Where are we going?"
"I have booked a whole floor of the Hilton hotel in Havana. It is safe, out of the way and not someplace anyone would think to look. It is modern. Lots of europeans but virtually no Americans."
"Good, sounds like fun. Maybe we can do a little business with the Cubans while we are there."
TOm nodded, scribbling notes.
"The purchase of the island is complete except for funding. We will make the payment when we actually get to the big island and before we got to our island. . excuse me. . your island."
Stephen smiles. "Consider it yours as well."
Tom smiled back. "After that we just need to get settled in and see what we need to do to personalize the place. This has happened so fast we really haven't had time to look at the facilities or other infrastructure on the island. I am sure there are many upgrades and improvements we will need to make."
"Yeah, I already have some ideas in that area, but we will talk about that later. First, lets get this deal closed and get out of here. I am tired of this place. Lots of bad vibes around here. It is beginning to get uncomfortable."
Tom looked at Stephen. "Can I ask a question?"
"Sure. Ask"
"What prompted all this sudden haste to be out of the States?"
Stephen sat a moment and thought then spoke slowly.
"I have been told that certain people in positions of power were preparing to make a move against me. They were going to get a number of politicians to work through some government agencies to try and shut down my enterprises. With that knowledge, I decided it was better to cut my loses and find a new place to operate with fewer rules and regulations, fewer nosey neighbors, and a much better climate."
"I sort of figured it was something like that. Well, we will be out of here by the end of the week and safely out of reach of the USGovernment."
"Yes, and then we begin to plan the next phase of my plan. We are going into the pleasure business on a big scale."
