Making Furniture & Equipping a Dungeon

I'm an aspiring carpenter and semi-handyman, and over the last couple months I've completed a dungeon and a few bits of new furniture; I still have a bit of space and was wondering what projects others have worked on and would love to see pics/schematics/tips. And if anyone is interested I can share my own (once I find that blasted camera!).

I've made two locking steel collars, one is in a drawer next to me- I've showed it to a few people on the webcam.

I also made a set of steel wrist & ankle shackles & another collar, all of which I sent to my friend in California (postage was a killer)

I'm a carpenter by trade- well sort of, but much prefer working in steel.

When lisa gets her own place I'll be taking some measurements.....

My first four projects: First, the crosses. I made two; the first was a bit too tall, and I didn't like how small the pad is (I haven't completed the second pad, but it'll be a detachable rectangle, about 1.5' x 2').

Schematic: (not perfect, but the key elements are 22.5 degrees on the cuts, 45 degrees between the struts, 92" long initially, cut down to 88" on the second).

The crosses themselves. All the parts were purchased from Home Despot: Flush Rings over routered indentations for a nice sleek look, a pair of 2"x6"x8' boards for the struts (heavily sanded, stained, and poly'd), and four carraige bolts with T-nuts to hold it together (these are easily removable for storage). The overlap was routered away, again for a smooth facade. When the second pad is added, it will use longer bolts that project from the front of the cross into another set of T-nuts on the back of a padded board, so it'll still be collapsable.

I made the bed and toy rack at the same time, so the schematics for them are kind of mixed. Key points: The bed is made in two ends for portability (size and wieght); each is 37" long (designed for a twin size mattress). It's 20" tall, with a 4" lip around the mattress (no box spring). It's based on an interior frame of 2"x4"s (which I assembled with a dizzyingly unessecary number of dados) held by 2.5" screws. I used a nicer sort of plywood for the exterior, which works fine for a rugged dungeon look but I would use real wood planks were I to do it again. Also, it's alot easier to assemble the exterier, and then put together the framed inside -- avoids gaps that made me re-build and adjust a few times.

The completed bed: again, everything was easily obtainable from Home Despot, except the latches, which I got at Ace. A total of 14 rings for tie downs, the same as I used on the crosses; the frame runs directly behind them, and I used extra long screws, so they're a lot more secure than they may look. A pair of pull-latches on either side holds it all together (I was going to include dowl studs, but they weren't really necessary once it was assembled). In the end, it was very complex but not much to look at; it is, however, damn fun to play with.

The last part was the toy rack; it was needful (throwing all our stuff in a drawer wasn't a good way to maintain quality toys, and made for a damn pain whenever I wanted a specific item) and all the lumber was left over from the bed (and some pieces from other projects). It uses a plethora of hooks and a pre-fab towel rod to hang toys from, and the top part is a shelf. Bits of chain connected to eye-bolts holds the pieces together (for a properly dungeon-industrial look). Unlike the bed, this one was a lot easier than it looks!

Edit: added a larger version of the rack, to show the details.

    Nice stuff ElectricBadger!

I did have a dungeon space, with a few pieces in it. Due to a move I haven't been able to keep most of the stuff. Here are a few pictures of what I did have.

I also have a crucifix, and the pic is in the crucifixion thread here.

I have been collecting things to decorate the walls of a dungeon with, once I have the space to do so. Sconces, lanterns, torches, swords, clubs, daggers, etc. Shopping here for midevil type stuff is can be very fun!

Very nice, I love the paddle! And the exposed rafters give good atmosphere. Where are you at to find all the medeival stuff? Here is Seattle there's jack.

I live in germany right now, part of the perks for being military. There is a little town not far from here called Cochem. In that town, just down the hill from the castle, there is a fantasy knife store. They have all kinds of fun things. I picked up my broad swoard at a adult toy show in the city of trier. I got one of my battle axes at the same show, and my other one at a mid evil festival.

There is a little store in trier, in the walk platz that sells all kinds of candles, and candle holders that we got the sconces and such at.

Perhaps we should start a "decorate your dungeon" thread, but I can post them here, as I'm not too sure that the thread would be all that populated.

I'm sure the mods will know if it is needed or not.

An excellent use of pervertable hardware for the bed badger.

I have a suggestion.... put the matress on a recessed plank frame so you can haul it up out of the bedframe. Then, with a few new add-on accessories, the bedframe will make a really versatile bondage platform.

I'm thinking of accessories such as a portable horse, bondage chair, stocks, pillory, etc.

Thank you for the thought! I'm actually thinking about doing some of that; I think the bed would be cost prohibitive to mail, but the other stuff may not be...gonna have to see.

OK, here's an offer I've made before....... I am an avid and accomplished woodworker. Not a pro- but I make my living buying and selling hardwoods. I have made numerous items over the years and given almost all of them to friends. Occassionally I get to spend a little time bound to these things as a barter for the items. I'm in NE Ohio....... ( I also have done toys in brass and acrylics ) ork

    Ok . . . I found another thread I decided to resurrect.

I know there are a lot of talented people on this forum and not just writers and authors. I have seen some of the handiwork of some of the members and I know that there exists a wealth of ability and creativity in other areas.

Dungeon furniture/toys are an area with which everyone deals. How do you integrate dungeon furniture into an everyday vanilla life comfortably and easily. What have others found that subsititute and what other "pervertables" are being used.

I would also like to hear from those other craftsman among us about what they are building, designing and working on as far as new toys, furniture, equipment, etc.

Lets get this one going again and make it a great resource!

Thank ElectricBadger for starting this thread!!! I am looking forward to furnishing our first dungeon. We just bought our first home and money is a little tight right now, but we have a long future to look forward to. I was looking more toward building toys and furniture that are concealable. I prefer not to have friends or future children stumble into the dungeon and discover a little too much. Great job with the cross and the bed, amazing. ICCrewDawg that is one incredible paddle. It must have taken a lot of patience to carve out the stars and moon.

I used a desktop scroll saw. Took me about two hours to complete. It's made of soft pine, so it isn't that functional.

I have been assigned this task:

I'm looking for plans for a sawhorse bench - with pads attached to the legs for knees and forearms and a padded top. Does anyone know where I can find some directions?

    Thanks,
