If you search for information regarding bloodplay and whatnot in the BDSM scene, you’re probably only going to find information about "edgy" activities that produce blood (see knife play thread). But what about what’s done with the blood itself? That is what this thread will pertain to.

As some of you know, I live with an extreme blood fetishist. A blood fetishist is (as you can guess) one who is aroused by the sight, smell, and/or taste of blood. He’s developed a sort of addiction I guess you could say to tasting/drinking my blood. How do I feel about it? Yeah, it used to be sort of weird, but I always did find it sexy and highly erotic… I think I have a vampire fetish lol, so it’s a turn on for me as well as him. I don’t particularly enjoy the taste of it myself, doesn’t do much for me, but the act of doing it is sexy to me. And I don’t know about you guys, but I think tasting each other’s blood is pretty romantic…

The three most common ways of extracting blood for the purpose of drinking are syringes, lancets, and razor blades. Syringes are great because you can measure exactly the amount you want, but can be the most dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. Training and much research are recommended before using a syringe. Lancets (what diabetics use for blood sugar testing) are good for just a few drops of blood – usually enough to satisfy the craving, and is a safe amount to do more frequently. Razor blades and knives are the best for intimate feeding among the three – licking and sucking the blood from your partner/donor’s flesh. Cutting is also more enjoyable for the partner/donor if they like pain

Okay… I don’t know about the used tampons part lol. But anyway, although venous blood is sweeter and more enjoyable (as I’ve been told), there are two advantages to menstrual blood. The first is advantage is that it’s the best for intimate feeding... as you can imagine. The second is that you can consume more blood without being worried about risking your partner’s health by taking too much, as you would with venous blood.

Speaking of which, how much blood is too much? According to the American Red Cross, the average person who is 17 years of age or older, and weighs at least 110 pounds (49.9 kg) can donate 16 ounces (473.3 ml) of blood every 8 weeks. It takes this long for the normal, healthy human body to get the red blood cell level back to normal. So unfortunately, he can’t take as much blood as he wants as often as he’d like. Plus, the person drinking the blood can also get sick if they have too much. And I’m sure I don’t need to mention the importance of getting your blood tested first…

The best information on technique and health precautions regarding the drinking of blood is found within – get ready for this – the "real" vampire community. As silly as they may sound, a lot of them are "sanguine" aka blood drinkers, and actually practice this regularly, though their reasons for drinking are different than that of a blood fetishist (what they consider "need" vs desire).

I have another route into this thread.
there is a subculture of therians... who beleive that the blood offered binds them to the one receiving. it's not so much about the blood itself as the act and symbology. ( yes i've participated numerous times. )
Another subculture of that one is the sharing of blood to bind relationships. sort of the same but this one is to create familial ties. Actual mixing of blood. Sometimes portrayed in hollywood movies by a Native American cutting his palm or wrist and holding it next to the one he wishes to make a "blood brother". This too i have participated in.
