i was referred here by someone i'd met at another site. at first i was a little intimidated, but only because i am really shy. i honestly can't think of anything off the top of my head that would make new users not want to come back, unless they realized that BDSM isn't something they were looking for.

this site is filled with tons of wonderful welcoming people. so it's definitely not the regulars that are running off the new folk! i know once i was able to get over my initial shyness and actually start posting in threads and visiting in chat, i was surprised at how nice everyone was! minxy is a doll and was the first person to actually welcome me to the site.

i know i haven't been a member here for very long, but i've made lots of good friends in that short time...and have had a lot of fun, both in the forums and in chat. ~grins~ it's official....i'm an addict! so yeah, i'll keep coming back because of the great people. another thing that keeps me coming back is the Forums/Stories. it's easy to get caught up in reading the stories...and even easier to get caught up in the forums!

Interesting question. Probably one that I should ask myself. Good thing I stumbled on this thread as I was exploring the site.

I am not a novice writer. In fact, I teach managerial communications and research methods and writing in the business college at the local univeristy. So writing in and of itself is nothing new to me.

Most of the writing that I do is technical or professional writing. A whole different aspect of writing than fiction, especially erotic fiction. I am quite skilled at the functional mechanics of writing. Grammar, spelling and the mechanics of publishing a scholarly work or a research report or even a business plan are the tools of my trade.

What I do want to polish and enhance is my ability to write fiction, especially erotic fiction. This presents a different set of skills that need to be enhanced. Things such as plot development, character development, pace, continuity, and, of course, the language to draw the reader into the story line and make it seem realistic.

I am a great fan of science fiction. I would like to try my hand at creating a series of book length works based in some science fiction setting.

I understand the work that a really good piece of prose requires. I also understand that I have a lot to learn and a lot to practice. I am hoping that I can find here some help with constructive criticism and suggestion as I work on improving this part of my craft. So, please bear with me as I practice on you all.

Oh, you can also look for some of my erotic poetry. I will try to post my first works online tonight. I have been writing erotic poetry for years and have never had a real outlet until now .

Well I've managed to stick my nose in just about everywhere in the last week (wanted or not, sometimes I'm not too sensitive about these things) (but I would be if I realised, I'm just a bit slow on the uptake), but there is still so much more to find, and I've only just found this.

So - yes! why I came to this site - because I had encoutered a glorious revolution, revelation in me, through the imagination, role-play and spanking of a good man - finally meeting someone who was not only into BDSM (which is not new to me), but also joyously, frankly, happily and very, very enthusiastically into it. And into me. And into me being into it. All my little supressed subby feelings came tumbling out big time, oh my, and I went through a very, very frenzied patch. And found this place. Initial reaction: cries for help, understanding, comfort, information - all freely given. Next reaction - hang on - this is a bunch of people having FUN! and very often being FUNNY! and, my God, wow, there is a not inconsiderable and lively literary community here too! Wow wow wow wow I can write again, and share!

Why I stay - well, see above. Met fine company of fun folk, who seem to be remarkably tolerant of garrulous newbies flinging themselves around wildly with no control and are even actively encouraging. Still expecting someone to slap me down at some point (or is that just wishful thinking?). But, oh, so good to be able just to be myself!

I stumbled upon one of the stories from this site...and was intrigued, so I followed a few urls and found my way here. I read a few stories, realized I wasn't the only freak (After reading the posts here...I realize none of us are freaks..in a negative since anyhow. So I wanted to know what the other people who felt like this were like, so I started looking at the forums to get a taste of the personalities. I really had some misconceptions.

Okay, I'm not sure I'm a one day wonder or not. I got my kicks by writing a story. It's been sitting on my hard drive for over a year. At last I thought, Oh, hell why not put it out there for everyone to read? So that meant I had to sign up.

The problem for somebody like me is the embarrasment factor. It is kind of weird, though. I see the posts on the political sites, and so many of the posts are just so stupid - I don't see why those people aren't embarrassed by them. So why not post here? The postings in these forums are generally thought out - unlike the postings on the politics - it's just the general subject matter that is embarrasing.

For all of those reasons and more. I am lucky enough to have come to grips with my own desires and being raised in such a way that i am not ashamed or embarrassed by them. So i joined, looked around.... and found my self posting multiply times in just my first few hours of joining.

I have found the people here helpful, inviting, funny, warm, and friendly. Even when i have seen disagreements they have been fair, well worded, and for the most part helpful. I have been able to see 2 or more takes on each subject and been able to use that knowledge for my own uses.

To all new members, please, post your questions, comments and feelings. Even if you don't think that anyone wants to hear your take, only by adding your thoughts to the mix do we all grow.

I first came out of curiosity. A woman on another forum wrote an excellent, personal piece about her realization that even though she is commanding in R/l, when it comes to her sex life, she wants more domination. Through her I found words for what I was feeling.

So I came to read and learn. (I don't like chat rooms, no offense, can't follow the conversations) But I stayed because the information was more than I'd hoped, the people are friendly enough, but give well thought out answers and intelligent responses (mainly, haven't noticed any negative).

Why did you join this Forum?
i would think i was the potential one day wonder... now that i have some idle time to reflect on it... i am curious about this lifestyle. tbh, it used to freak me out. literally! (check out movie title "8 mm")
i've been lurking around the library since April 2006 and enjoying many excellent stories (non-gory ones), which get me relatively warm and lead me to the other dimensions. *wink wink*
it took me 7 months to find out about the Forums and work up the courage to register. (duhh! lol)

brought up in a fairly restrictive culture, this topic is anathema to the society and a stigma, which is frowned upon ~ even though i do think everyone secretly wants to know more/practise such a forbidden yet delicious topic.

a large portion of my r/l is occupied by work, which i like very much. it constantly takes me to beautiful places around the world. it's fairly hectic & exciting. nevertheless, the daily approach tends to be too methodical, technical & analytical. hence, i am sometimes accused of being a control freak @ work.
personally, i am a cheeky brat who is shy, introvert, and cautious to the brink of being a chicken. (not to mention a spoiled brat ) i sometimes wonder whether i am the only "paradox" one out there... Fortunately, the Forums indicate that i'm not. Yay!

What keeps you coming back?
i kinda agree with the saying "Curiosity kills the cats... but satisfaction brings 'em back..." In the Forums, i found a lot of helpful articles and discussions. Many people offer sincere advice, with humor here & there. No judgment nor ridicule. These gestures are truly warm & encouraging and make me feel free & safe to learn and indulge my unexplored side.
Fearing y'all are in the brink of falling asleep, i would like to all for making the Forums such a great place.
