That was well understood from the start, yet that surprise shows quite some naivety. F/f is a staple of the industry (so to speak) and many male writers are quite good at it! (I guess some readers here recall Mr Ed's 'Pooch' and other steamy books). More to the point, it is appreciated by most male readers! So the assumption that only females would respond is really naive. Where it becomes weird is when a male reader requests 'training' from a F/f writer (whatever his/her gender) but stranger things happen.

I remember writing in appreciation (no more!) to the writer of a well done M/M tale which had got me wet-dreaming, and he was quite gracious about it.
