Because, no matter how well trained, people want to know their opinions have been considered. Do you act/appear to have listened and considered their opinions? Do you explain why you went with the choice you made? That may be all that's required...
But if you proceed, "appearing" to not have considered their input... well, that's the road to discontent... regardless of whether you're dealing with 'nillas, doms, and even subs.
[anectdote]
I once had an employee come in to tell me their idea. He had no sooner gotten about 7 words out of his mouth that I realized he was absolutely right. (Intuitive leaps are one of my fortes.) So I told him "You're absolutely right. Go do it that way."
He got really upset. I asked if realized I was agreeing with him and yes he did... but more important than that... he had just wanted to tell me his idea and have me listen. It was the telling and interaction and for some reason my listening that was important... regardless of whether or not I had agreed.
I learned a big lesson about human nature... after all, that's what I expect of others when I have something to say. So I have since always had very happy staffs... because I listen, consider, and then do what I want to do anyway.
