I hate to use the "g" word, but if you're just looking for shaping and flattening at an affordable price..have you considered a girdle? Oh so not sexy (unless you happen to have a fetish for granny's unmentionables), but gets the job done for not a lot of money. I know JCPenney carries several styles, maybe check out their website. If nothing else it could get you started until you find more what you're looking for (or can afford what you really want ).

Yeah, a girdle works for the hip pudge (i.e. the stuff under the navel) but doesn't do a whole lot for the spare tire around the waist! Which is why I'm looking for something that will pull everything from the hips to just below the breasts in. I've tried wrapping an ace bandage around my middle, and it didn't help. I still bulged out.

Ok heres one that mite work. Try using a corset.

I'm no corsetiere( alas) but I'd reckon that corsets of that length probably need a degree of fitting? I'd be surprised if you could just pull one off the shelf, and that would mean splashing out. But hey, you'd have a corset and they look pretty hard-wearing. I've bought shorter corsets before for girlfriends, low/mid-price and although they looked good they didn't have the build quality for any really tight lacing.

There is an other type called a body sintcher, and like the tite states try fredricks. Or Sears.

Ok, girdle was the wrong choice of words (almost always! )...but Penney's does carry stuff that goes from your breasts down to above your knees and everything in between. Just checked out their website and they call it "Shapewear".

I have a friend in Sweden that makes corsets (beautiful work) to order at a reasonable price. Something along the line of you send measurements, he sends hand-made corset.

My mother had a similar concern (grimace: runs in the family....), and an off-the -shelf model didn't work. She had one made for her, and it was not only pretty to look at, but really "held things in".
