The burqa is a symbol of all the oppression, fundamentalism and sexism that the western world finds offensive in its eastern neighbors; at the same time, however, there's the definite allure of wondering what sort of woman -- what body, what passion -- could be hidden beneath. It's like a present, all wrapped up and promising.
