I use poser as do most 3d people these days; I'm considering reinstalling my old Bryce so I can import my Poser sets into it and take advantage of it's truly awe-inspiring lighting and rendering engine.

But Poser can import 3DS and obj geometries; so if you work with those file formats, then the 3d world is your oyster!
