Of course, it's not that simple, it needs to be legally copyrighted , but, it is common decency to ask permission to recopy a posted 'anything'.

Most people on the net, generally follow the "common decency' rule that I just stated.

What about the sites that host pictures......such as Photobucket? That's linking, isn't it?
Actually you dont even need to put the C next to it, it used to be the case in the american law to do it but not anymore. There is a list of (from the top of my head) 54 countries who are all involved in the convention that says that every picture you make, every painting, video etc. is copyrighted to you (owner being the one who made it, not the person on it). Everything you make is your own intellectual property and you dont need to put any (c) or brand on it to mark it as such. You may do it of course, but you dont have to.
