What to Read?

I'm on my way to the library now. I don't read much (about 2 or 3 books a year) so I don't like to waste my time on a book that will not benefit or interest me. I'm interested in books about the BDSM lifestyle. What do you recommend? (I'm not checking anything out today--I'll wait for your suggestions.

Yep, unless you're headed to a university library, or maybe a library in NYC, or San Francisco... I kinda doubt you'll find much of anything that doesn't say we're mentally defective.

If you're lucky, you might find a couple of low-risque novels or anectdotal tales like Nine and 1/2 Weeks but my personal search in the local library, consisting of 7 branches including one in a university town... came up mostly empty.

You'll probably be 'poorer', but happier, going directly to an online book seller to obtain the titles you want.

There are a couple of good book-threads you could search for to get past conversations on the topic.

If you are looking for fiction stories then Anne Rices early stuff under a pseudonym is OK or "Exit to Eden" if you haven't read them. The aren't too in depth though.

I'd check out the links on any BDSM site- particularly story posting sites.

Also if it's just stories you want to read, there's one or two posted in the library on this site.

The Story Of O is said to be one of the ultimate journeys into D/s, or slavery- personally it didn't do a thing for me really- it was beautifully written though.

There's a site called www.submissiveloving.com - they used to have some book reviews or something, & that's a good informative site, with little of the nonsense you find in some places.

Every relatively well sorted library will carry Sacher Masoch's "Venus in Furs" and at the very least de Sade's "Justine" (if you're lucky the rest of his work too). Those two count as classics -- you may even read them on the street without blushing I think the Story of O (by Pauline Reage -- I agree with Tojo, it didn't do anything for me either) should be available too. You may also want to check out some of Anais Nin's stuff -- some of it has some rather subtle BDSM elements in it.

LOLOL!! i found all of Anne Rice's books, except for the ones that talked about BDSM ... Books about Satanism, how to be vampiric, Madonna's Sex book, books about how to blow things up, how to make guns, how to get away with almost anything, how to make your own poisons and darts, and one about being a cannibal, and .......but BDSM is going way too far!

i think that the only library hope we have is if someone doesn't know that it's a "bad" book lol.

de Sade's 120 Says of Sodom is quite an interesting read as well

well Mr FixIt if your interested in female submission and like sci fi/ fantasy, give the Gor series a try, john normans wrote only about 27 books about a theroretical world with a heavy bdsm theme, first one in the series is "Tarnsman of Gor" easy to locate on the net, not so easy to find in bookstores depemding on where u look,

as for printed bdsm books,the Barnes&Nobel where i work has a prety large area in my store that carries erotic fiction and non-fiction (its actually got its own section) though the content of such sections in other stores may vary with different state/ city ordances,, though u could browse for different titles and get them shipped to yur front door if ya like from any store in our chain,,lol happy book hunting Sir
