Krista came back in with no change in her appearance, other than her outer clothes. She had wrapped herself mostly in a blanket and went straight back to the couch, where she sat down in the far corner, facing the room. I was a little pissed; she needed to look different than she did in the hospital, so we would not get stopped by the local Gendarmes when they felt bored. *sigh* No wonder Marta gave me a dirty look on the way out! I imagine she was threatened somehow.

This girl was going to make life challenging!

I set about doing something I had not been able to in a while, cooking a meal. Forty minutes later, we had a fine dinner on the table. I invited everyone over to eat.

When we finished, it was way past dark, but I wanted to take a walk in the woods, towards a place I had always enjoyed for its solitude. I'd gone there so often, likely I could find my way blindfolded, but I took along a flashlight just for security. I needed to get out of the cabin a while, and sort out my thoughts.

Halfway to the stream, I heard footsteps behind me and spun around. Krista stood behind me, still wrapped in that double-damned blanket.
