An interesting hypothesis. I have experienced both and there is certainly a similarity between the states, but in my experience they are significantly different. As you say they are hard to explain, and perhaps even harder to compare, but hopefully and attempt is better than nothing.

When I have been hypnotised I have retained a level of independent thought and self awareness than I have when I am in sub space and sub space has something which is something intensely satisfying, at least to submissive me, which is totally missing in hypnosis.
