I use the latest version of AVG on two computers and Avast on a older computer. I also use Jettico Firewall version 1 on my XP and Windows Firewall on my Vista. I ran Norton's antivirus and firewall on my computers and ran into many problems. No problems since switching to the free programs.

i have alot of experience with avg. the free one is pretty good but be carefull. its not that good when it comes to trojans and the realy nasty virusses.

i have had loads of virus scanners in the past. and i have to say. avg free is good. and norton is pure evil.

norton tends to ignore all trojans. ( i had 74 and norton said it found nothing)

I'm beginning to come around to the same thoughts. I've used Norton for years, still using it on my main computer, and haven't had too much trouble. But it does ignore some things. That's why I also use Spybot S&D (free) and a new one, for me, MalwareBytes (also free). I've found that nothing really catches everything, but using multiple programs can pretty much eliminate the vast majority. And I'm using AVG (free) on my two older machines, which are really not used too much. I'm experimenting with them, though, and AVG, in combination with Spybot's Tea Timer, has caught some problems before they could install themselves on my machine.

I used to use Ad-Aware, too, but I don't much care for their latest revisions, so I've stopped using it.

my tech guy put something called NoAdware on my computer; it's manual - doesn't do the timed run thing, but it does a damn sight better than norton, which doesn't do crap. in fact i'm trying to delete norton from my computer and it doesn't wanna go!

i'm system administrator and it's telling me i'm not allowed to delete it.

    wtf! lol

Yeah...this is basic stuff for system controllers!

If you don't want to use a removal prog, you can, of course, remove it manually...if you have a couple of hours to spare
