    Define sadness

This thread: http://www.bdsmlibrary.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=20911 started a discussion about the definition/meaning of love and other feelings. I thought it would be interesting to hear other's thoughts about what those other emotions feel like to you.

Sadness - how do you define sadness?
Working too much....and unfortunately not online as much as I'd like.

Sadness is what I felt when my wife cried at her parents' funerals. Knowing that there was nothing I could do to ease her pain except be there for her. I would have done more if I could have. That's sad.

Sadness is being without meaningful things to think about. That can occur when loved ones die or when you leave me.

Sadness is orphans of a tsunami or earthquake, and realising their lives without parents and siblings.
Sadness is a Children’s Hospital with no empty beds.

To me, sadness is anything that makes the heart heavy.

I wrote a poem once about sadness...it's a bit cryptic and even though at first it may not seem to have meaning, no word is accidental.

When void remains and sorrow stays to stab your sordid soul
A worried wonder, torn asunder, fails fate and death alike.
Yet in that moment triumph tries to take back what its won.
The inner dies while one's heart cries for never being loved.
