Louise had been totally shut off from what was going on and there was no way she could figure out what happened to Felina after they had both been hooded. The lack of sudden, directed noises from the star - except fro occasional rattling and grunting - was a bad sign, she had thought: it had to mean Felina was not making decsive progress.
When the Hostess took the microphone gain, Louise had heard every word. It put her hair on end: iort confirmed that Felina was truly helpless and unable to free herself, and When the evil woman made the dastardly offer, Louise's heart jumped up to her throat. She saw clealry the danger Felina was in, and she also realized that humiliation of Felina might include herself too.
The silence froze her. She wanted to tell Felina not to falter, not to give in. When the Hostess finally spok again, and her words confirmed that Felina had chosen stiollness and pain rather than risk losing everything, she exhaled softly. "Good" she thought.
Then she heard what she had already half suspected, the taunt to the audience to become yet more sadistic. If Louise had been able to pull herslef into a ball and knock the Hostess over from behind, pushing her ignominiously into the audience, she would have done so. This was absolute madness, and she wondered if Felina and herself would urvive without lasting damage to their bodies.
