not a personal ad, just a few suggestions

I thought long and hard about posting this message, so here goes.

Before you post a personal ad, take a little while for the community to get to know you, get involved in chat, post in the forum's, learn a little bit about the community.

As people get to know you they will become more interested, and feel more comfortable with you. So instead of responding to a personal ad from somebody who is entirely unknown to them, now they have an idea of who you are, and if you are the type of person that they are looking for.

I really wished I would have done this before I posted my first personal ad.

Now people can see that I have a sense of humor, and am generally kind, considerate, and polite, and I'm not just some wannabe Dom, looking for a sub to beat on.

there is really no one way and I guess if I was new to it all I probably would be reading everything and getting both good and bad advise and being very confused.

I used to run a large chat room on the life so I guess I just got of all the nonsense and petty politics finally got me out of ever going there. No problem with those that do but just not for me anymore.

Still if your new it is a good enough way to start just be careful who you trust

Yes, I've noticed a number of posts in the personal sub forum that are one time/only time posters and I have wondered how successful they are, and more particularly when the posts only consist of two or three lines. I mean--hello?--this isn't your local newspaper where you're paying for the advertisement by the line, you can tell us as much as you want and we won't charge you any extra.

I suppose these advertisement from non-chatter/ non-posters work if the person is articulate and able to express themselves well but I still tend to agree it's much nicer and easier to get to know the person in a less committed and confronting way.

And, I have another suggestion. I've noticed these personal ads will often read like a wish list of wants and needs, rather than an enticement to a prospective partner. I think that maybe a bit of turn off for some people.

Yep, I totally agree with that approach Midnite- it's so easy to say whatever you like in a personal ad, but once someone has posted a few times it's not so easy to put on an act.

So many people come to sites of all kinds for the express purpose of finding some new talent for a bit of fun, it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Unfortunately, your advice will go unseen by those who sign up and head straight for the personals... even if it were to be 'stickied' to the top of the Personals thread.

Yeah, there's not a darn thing you can do to stop the never ending tide of would-be subbies throwing themselves to the wolves.

I try to believe that if they have any brains whatsoever they'll look around a bit first & not be sucked in by 'AmazingDom_#1'

If all else fails, we can always offer to help pick up the pieces.

Good idea, Midnite. But it won't work for me: I wouldn't stand a chance if people found out what I was really like ...
