Do people interested in BDSM have higher IQ’s?

I have yet to find a professional study that has been done with this subject but if you know of one please post the link. My theory (or someone else’s theory if there has already been a study on it) is that people interested in BDSM or role-playing have a higher IQ that the “average” sex life. I think this because the average “sex” life is mostly physical while BDSM or role-playing has more of a mental process in it. People with higher IQ’s desire a more mental sexual life or fantasy. At least that’s my reasoning. Oh and as for GPA being an indicator of intelligence GPA is more of an indicator of how hard you try, except for the fact that some people can get 4.0 without even trying but even then those people might have a high IQ in just one type of field. But anyway I would rather have an employee with a high GPA then IQ any day.
    Rules:
Please do not answer if you are no interested in BDSM
Please do not vote if you have never taken an official IQ test
You may vote even if our IQ test was taken a long time ago

My last IQ test was in high school. Does that still count?

Not sure of any kind of general answer, but at the very least I think you have to break through a barrier of "how you're supposed to be living". It does take courage and commitment to be into this, and openmindedness, as well.

I don't doubt my own intelligence though - or that of many others here...

I am not at all confident that IQ scores can measure a person's intelligence accurately. When I last tested I was 10 and the score indicated that I was gifted; however, if I tested again and scored the intelligence level of a 15 year old, as I did when I was 10, then I'd be a moron. As an aside, some people think I am a moron. *giggles.

My younger son simply cannot take standardized tests, (he usually scores in the "lower percentile") and yet he is an honor student at a university, speaks italian fluently, can translate ancient italian texts to english, is a computer wiz and and tutors anatomy and physiology at his school. He also plays many instruments and can read and write music. Need I say more...... ?
But I digress. IQ scores aside, I have found that the Dominants and submissives that I have met and who I consider to have a true and realistic D/s soul are intelligent, well spoken and have a great sense of humor. Just that the Doms can't seem to spell worth a shit. ROFLOL! LOL Just my copper tarn worth, ~blizz~
"Do you know, ultimately," I asked, "who will prove to be your one best trainer?" "No, Master," she said. "You, yourself," I said, "the girl, herself, eager to please, imaginative and intelligent, monitoring her own performances and feelings, striving lovingly to improve and refine them. You yourself will be largely responsible for making yourself the superb slave you will become."

*gg* It does seem sometimes that subs are much better at writing and discussing, maybe 'cause we have to explain things to ourselves, and sometimes you even have to encourage your husband to get onto the road *winks at Jeanne* Not putting down Doms as a class, of course...

I'll answer yes, but with a qualifier. I don't necessarily think IQ tests alone are an accurate gauge of a person's intelligence. Some people, including myself, do not test well. That said, I graduated with a 3.85, and left graduate school with a 4.0. If I had a choice to write a paper or take an exam, I always opted for the paper.

So far, my experience with those interested in bdsm are highly intelligent and well-spoken individuals. I also find many excellent writers among the bdsm crowd. I think you might be onto something with the fact that bdsm has more of a mental element to it than pure physical sex.

Playful, I agree with you 100%! IQ tests alone are not accurate. IMO, written tests cannot possibly indicate one's true capacity to learn. There are those in my profession that would disagree, but they would be wrong. LOL

I, too, have come across several individuals in this lifestyle that are extremely articulate and well-versed in not only BDSM, but many other subjects as well.

I would agree with cadence that imaginative and artistic are those that have an inclination for BDSM rather than intelligent.
no I am not gonna answer the poll.
Imagination, creativity, and artistic abilities are intelligences that cannot be measured with a written test, but do indeed account for an intelligent person. Anyone can read books and commit words to memory. It's the application that is difficult. That requires an imaginative and creative brain. Applying that knowledge into life takes wisdom. (For everything else, there's MasterCard. LOL)

I think you wrote what I meant but mine came out wrong somehow.
IQ tests shows how good you are at answering a particular type of questions in a particular way and I dont normally do well under those circumstances.

I am not that interested in knowing how intelligent I am either cause I know that I am smart enough. Guess that is down to self confidence though.

I don't know about that to be honest.
I hate saying people who have high IQ's are more inclined to lean towards BDSM.
I would rather use the terms imaginitive and artistic.
I can't write well, I am not good at the art of debate, and seldom do I pay attention to real world events.
I have music though, and I consider myself to be artistically inclined.
To be honest, I would be worried about taking a IQ test and find out how low my score would be.
Would I have to switch from submissive to Domme?

Good idea, I know there is a test that measures creativity somewhere, but I’m guessing most people would have rarely taken it. I think there is something in one of my psychology books about high IQ being related to creativity. I’ll look that up. Oh and I also think people interested in BDSM might be related to “sensation seeking” people. I have a paper with the test on it so I might post that eventually if someone else hasn’t.

I hope we're all amused with ourselves.

If we're all finished teasing the poor dom/mes, perhaps you can all line up, bend over, and show how good you are at counting too.

Oh dear. Note to self: teasing Doms about their spelling and punctuation = bad.

But - how can I resist such an easy target?!

Sooner or later every subculture or niche hobby gets around to deciding that its members must be smarter or cooler than everyone else. I don't buy it.
I'm not even angry, I'm being so sincere right now
Even though you broke my heart, and killed me
    And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned, it hurt because
I was so happy for you!

The problem with IQ tests is they're standardized to be taken at a young age. So if you "score" 100 at age six, and thereby get a quotient of 150, the same exact results at age 25 might get you a score of 105... or maybe even less that 100, depending on how your age is calibrated into the scoring.

I "lost" nearly 30 points over the last 47 years. LOL. No worries... It was all due to the age adjustment.... well, I think so. LOL

So jin, do you want the original score from when I was first tested in grade school or the new score? (Actually the new one was indeed an internet test so I guess it doesn't count... I'll put in the original score. GASP!!)

Good question, I think. There's a comedian and social thinker in Britain who suggested that more intelligent people are more likely to be openly gay because a thick person wouldn't think that such options are available. I won't say if I agree with him or not, but I see his point.

However, I think the above test is a bit flawed. Those with low IQs are less likely to want to read stories, hence they wouldn't come to this site. Plus... my IQ is up around 145-155, but in most online tests it comes out at around 135 because the test doesn't go to the very highest levels.

Finally, if my IQ was 90, I wouldn't put my score down - I'd inflate it by 20 points or not bother!

I know. >.< This hardly makes for a professionally done psychological survey... But I figured since I'm going to major in psychology I should try and organize some amateur "experiments" myself, and am kind of curious anyway.

It has been a very long time fr me since i did the IQ test.. and i was at 125.. but i doubt i am that now..

I think Candice had it right .. it is not so much how intellegent you are.. but more how creative and artistic..

To be honest i feel you have to be able to dream a little before you can expeirence a good BDSM scenerio... whether it be in Real Life or on the net...

I think ones that are extremely intelligent .. may know what is written in a book .. but they forget how to dream in most cases... They are more into realistic thoughts then into imaginative.. and can not allow their bodies or emotions soar..

    As far as the Dom/mes spelling areas, and their bad punctuations.. It is because they get lost in the thoughts and their subs, and forget to check spelling.. hehehehe i know even do that.. lol... {tries to get in good with the Dom/mes}

As for math.. giggles i had a grade of 91% .. hmmm funny how i forget at times how to count.. especially when over ones lap... Blushes

But back to the IQ test...that is my opinion... Take it or leave it.. it is up to you..

I normally run off the scale at 195+ but I've found it really depends on my mood and the test environment. I do best sitting in a bar with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other, but that's probably just from being an ex-journalist and spending most of my life living in pubs around Fleet Street, of which there used to be a great many!

My last official (MENSA) test, however, I only got 141-150, so that's what I ticked for this poll. I could make the excuse that I hate exam rooms, hadn't slept for 36 hours, hadn't eaten for 18 hours and was sloppy drunk at the time having just sent a newspaper to press but ...Well, mostly I just got bored and the invitatation I hod to help a bunch of newly qualified doctors celebrate in the pub just across the road was so much more appealing.

I mention that because, being bored and in need of a drink and a cigarette, I just killed the last two sections of the IQ test ticking off boxes at random. I think that's when I lost faith in IQ testing as a science. I scored higher that way than when I was trying. *L*
