    Talking Story contests

    Guess who?

I have a couple of topics in the Story Contest forum for April and May. Story Contests

What went into my decision to pick these two topics?

I've seen several calls for submission for flash fiction. There is a lot to be gained from this exercise, for instance it makes you build a structure for your story and you can use it to build a bigger one.

Calls for submissions almost always have a word limit or give you a range, so the words you use need to count. You can be a word miser but still say a lot with the few you use, maybe even better.

I picked the second one because I love the feel of the picture, a story can go in many directions from it, and you can write the piece with a certain audience.

This pic is dark, the intended audience may not be readers of hot, raunchy, every hole gets fucked sex by every perv in the story, but a piece that's well written with good hot vanilla sex and express the dark elements and feel.

Further, If I saw a call for a hetero couple, (and sometimes the type of relationship is specific,) stuck on a desert island and one of them says "I never knew..." and I sent them a story that started with "I never knew you were gay," my goose would be cooked and the would be kicked back in a nano second.

    Food for thought.

That said, I'd like to see writers from this forum participate, including the instructors. The entries will be anonymous. As for me, I can't and won't enter them because it would be a conflict of interest, etc., etc.

    So, let's rock.

Only 7 days to submit your story or poem. This contest is appropriate for level one students on up. It is short and fun. Let's have some entries from the Writer's Block. Do your instructors proud.

This piece of flash fiction won first prize in a recent Desdemona.com writing contest Spitshine by Ann Rosenquist Fee

June Story Contest Reminder. Submissions due June 30.

The winners will have their work read by me. That may or may not be a prize.
