    Music and sceneing

This might have been more appropriate for the knowledge base section, but I couldn't work out where to put it, so here it goes. As a relative noob, I was wondering if anyone here uses music to help set the mood whilst sceneing? I would think that (for me at least) it would be helpful in creating the right kind of headspace, but I wonder if others might find it distracting? Or any suggestions for bands/albums/songs that people think would work or have tried?

I'd better offer a few suggestions of my own, as well, I suppose...so I was thinking

Lords of Acid- ABC's of Kinky Sex, Stripper, Slave, The Power is Mine
Inkubus Sukkubus- I Am The One, Vampyria Erotica, Child of Morpheus
    kidneytheives- Layers, Crazy, Spank
Motorhead- Orgasmatron (I personally think this'd be the best of the lot)
Nine Inch Nails- More or less anything, particularly from Pretty Hate Machine or The Downward Spiral
    The Cure- Lovecats

    Ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

I actually tried this earlier, seems not many people actually work on a play list for BDSM. Here is my thread from before, I only got one reply and am still working on a personla play list.

I'll admit, I never even thought about it. Now that the wheels are turning, though... Would you just stick to the obvious songs, reinforcing the Dom/sub station, or would you branch off into generally heavy songs? What about lighter songs? Now that I think of it, I could easily use any dozen of those "meditation" music tracks or "scenic" music tracks to enhance a scene, or even send my pet all the way into subspace. Keep the type of play appropriate to the music, and now you have a very handy tool indeed.

Okay, I'm gonna go have fun with the idea now.

    Love you all!

    Question a matter of rythem...

Here's an interesting question I thought of. For those of you who occasionally put on music while getting intimate, what music do you prefer? It doesn't necessarily have to be what you listen to during sex, but what gets you in the mood?

    What say you, people?

Some nice instrumental jazz, a good sax or piano...sexiest music ever, and a good balance between relaxation and tension for a long play time -- and no annoying words to tug at the mind (nothing like getting Vanilla Ice stuck in your head mid-coitus)
    Back!
With your fiendish books of gods
    With suffering self-righteous pain
    Back!
    With Hell-fire and vicious rods
    With repressed passion gone insane
    Back!
I won't lose my soul, too.

lol Better then Barney, I guess...

Yes, I've also found that instrumental music can set a very good ambiance in the background without interrupting your thoughts to process words. Definitely a good thing to have around the house.

I once found myself intimate with a girl in bed, and well into it, when the guys in the apartment next door stepped up their party and Michael Jackson's Blood on the Dancefloor came on at such a bustling volume it sounded like the amps were standing in our room, not theirs (paper thin walls, too). They didn't have that many records, and we could hear them talking and shouting for the next two hours with Dancefloor coming on again and again... That was so not a hit; after twenty minutes we admitted defeat and rose up from bed.

I'd agree about instrumental jazz - Keith Jarrett for instance - Bob Dylan also works fine for me - his lyrics are so fast-moving they're easy to move into the background, mentally.

Awww, I hate when people are rude like that. There's really no reason to be blaring music that loud in the middle of the night, especially if you live in an apartment. My friend/ roommates buddy does that and it drives me up the wall.

Hmmm, I actually don't own any instrumental Jazz, but I'm starting to consider investing in some.

    Coltrane
Tom Waits jazzier tunes(not the experimental crap where he chews barbwire )
If/when I do a scene I try and pick some music that fits it somewhat.
Common is great music. Souly hip hop that has great flow in it. Just like sex... the flow is important

I love jazz and blues but for pure pleasure make love to bolero nothing I have ever heard music wise put you in the mood like it. It is a 20 minute cresendo or for those who don't speak music, 20 minutes constantly building to a climax.

Jazz is definitely fun as well as saxophone. Of course I am biased since I played saxophone in jazz band in high school...

As for instrumental because you don't want to have to get odd lyrics stuck in your head, grab some music in a foreign language you don't know. Know the singer is just another instrument.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that. I do have a few other songs that have very long cresendos in them, so I hope to try them out as well.

Most any full orchestra recording will do of bolero. I can tell you of the history of the piece but it would take away from the impact of the recording.

Oh for a session of painful play try "Night on Bald Mountain" not sure if that is Bald or Bauld but it is very dark till the end and a great way to time a very intense session.

I'm a real fan of smokey women singing the blues to help set the scene--Nina Simone, Lizz Wright, Etta James, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, et al.

These women know about hurting and it can be the perfect mood music.

This brings up an unrelated question that I have... does anyone know anything about the guys from NIN? I'd bet money that at least one (if not all) of them is into bdsm.

    But, I digress

This is different, and not far off from what I had in mind. Someone just stole my TOOL and NIN (along with at least $1,500 in other CD's, some irreplaceable. ) but I still have my Rammstein left... I might give that a try one day... (HeHee, "Let me see you stripped")

I love NIN, but I don't know anything about them. I'm not into learning all their names and where they're from, etc. However, their videos as well as a lot of their song lyrics are very suggestive, and if I had to guess, the lead singer is submissive.

I only recently discovered E Nomine and it has been playing consistently for the last couple weeks. They make driving epic. Somewhat similar to them is L'ame Imortelle. More Enya like would be Loreena McKennitt.

    Specific Songs:
VNV Nation - Cold (Rated R Remix by mig-29)
    Wumpscut - I Want You
Assemblage 23 - Let Me Be Your Armour

Sir Russell and nightsilver: you really should give The Ancient (the amazing third track/side of Yes' Tales From Topographic Oceans) a listen. Stunning, evocative piece of music that goes far beyond the bounds of '70s progressive rock (yes, I know Tales is sometimes a love-or-hate album). What Steve Howe and Alan White conjure up is a kind of primeval stone-agey magnificence that seems to track the road from Neanderthal to literate human culture and the ongoing struggle within us. And Howe's guitar playing on that one is like nothing you've ever heard before...

what kind of music do you listen to while in the chatroom

I listen to all kinds. Some times it's rock like crazy bitch by Buck Cheery.
Other times it's Gimme That Nutt by Easy E.
But when I am in a Domme kinda mood I listen to System of The down or White Zombie
hard rock helps me feel mean if needed.
But when I am feeling like a sub I listen to pink and Gym Class Hero's
    Pain, without love
    Pain, I can't get enough
    Pain, I like it rough
'Cause I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
