Responding to this separately because I quoted Amber then did some other things, and in the meantime, Twicelooked posted this.

While some will see the following line as thin and difficult to see, I would argue that it is not. If my pet (only a name, she is my sub, not slave nor pet in fact) does what I tell her, as I have trained her (or as I have retained and utilized previous experience) when I am absent from her, is she outside my "responsibility?" If I provide her with the direction necessary to engage and internalize the principles I wish her to live by, is she out of my control when I am absent?

I suggest that Twicelooked's perspective here is primarily physical, whereas many, including me, see the essence of submission and domination as primarily mental.
