    The Elements Song....

i'm so proud i could bust the ropes i've been tied to the sawhorse with and i know that this is totally BDSM unrelated, but i had to share!

My grandson, Randy, is 12, and i've raised him since birth....( the daughter just never really caught on to the "parenting" thing, but that's fodder for another thread ). And to add to that, he's Autistic, very high functioning (He falls within 'Aspergers Syndrome' on the spectrum), but socially, emotionally, he functions at about age 6....and always will.

As a result of this, his small motor skills are sorely lacking, and he doesn't write well. And because it's not much more than a scrawl, he doesn't like to do it, it embarasses him. Well most of the class is writing....writing results of experiments, etc

So it was quite a surprise when he brought home an 'extra credit' project for his Grade 7 science project...to sing The Elements Song, in front of the whole class. And said he'd do it...it's a song performed my Tom Lehrer, an comedy thing he wrote for his own nephew, to help HIM memorize the Table of Periodic Elements.

i got him an MP3 player, so we could record it, and he could take it with him everywhere he went, and he did....

Yesterday....guess who got extra credit in science?? His grade went from an F to an A- overnight....

The song is here, and as you listen to it, remember that Randy is only "6"....

awww butterfly that is so awesome! And I bet it was adorable as well! Children are amazing. Mine never ceases to surprise and delight me with the things she does, and she is six! Your patience and understanding I am sure were major reasons for his success!

Tell Randy that he did great. That's a lot to remember and I'm not sure I would have remembered the whole lot of them.

actually I remembered that song on my own, after hearing Lehrers voice, and Randy was fascinated by it as well!
